Hey guys, trying to settle a debate between me and a few friends. Most of us carry a sidearm when in the field for whatever different reasons but usually hogs, predator protection, whatever. My question is what are most of y'all carrying? Revolver or semi auto? .357, .44 mag, .45 acp, .40, 10mm, .45 colt, or something different? Why do you prefer that style and caliber? Ok guys thanks for the help.

I carry the Colt.45 mainly because it's what I'm most familiar with. Dove&Deer Hunting not so much, Hog and Varmint I'll carry though.

Depends on my primary weapon. 22, 32 mag, 45acp, 44 mag, just depends, no hard and fast answer.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

in the summer i carry a Springfield 1911, MC Operator, because of the higher chances of me running into a ticked off rattle snake or a hog out here. in the winter i lean to a .22 because theres not much ill run into

Usually depends on what I have in the truck. I usually have the Springfield 1911 .45 with me. The weight makes it noticeable after walking around for a while. I'll probably start carrying something lighter like the S&W Shield .40 or a 38 special revolver.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

After taking up Cowboy Action Shooting, I have changed my preference on what I carry in the field. After throwing thousands of rounds at steel targets, aiming has become second nature. My skill level with a single action has dramatically improved and I find I can get off six shots just has fast and accurately has my semi's (even better). With that being said, I carry a short barrel single action 357 mag.

I carry an old High Standard .22 9 round double action revolver with a 6" barrel, loaded with hollow points. It goes wherever I go in the field. I've killed lots & lots of critters with that thing. I shoot all of my trapped pigs with it, finished off pigs & deer with it, bobcat last year, snakes, tons of rabbits, coons, possums, turtles etc...and if I had to use in self defense I could. I like it because it's light weight, I shoot it well, & I can wear it all day working at the ranch getting dirty and never have to worry about it jamming if I need it in a hurry. I only carry a big sidearm if I'm hunting with one. I have a Dan Wesson .357 mag w/6" barrel that I love pig hunting with.

G20 in 10mm Auto with a Surefire X300 mounted light. Running my 10mm ammo in 200 grain XTP at full speeds. If I was already carrying, then I keep my G29 on me. Can you tell I like the 10mm!

During snake season I carry a .357 with snake shot as the first two rounds. The rest of the time I carry a Magnum Research Commander 45 ACP. It will cycle with snake shot if needed.

Carry what your familiar with, not what your buds carry, not what looks cool. Carry the pistol/caliber that you shoot the best with , if your flinching and missing that popular pistol isn't going to do you good.

The same gun I always carry my glock 19 usually with my tlr attached 16 rounds of +p is more than enough to deal with anything I come across. I only carry it when birds hunting though if I'm out with my rifle it stays in the jeep.

Normal, everyday in the field I carry my Uberti 45 Colt. If hunting with a revolver, my Ruger NMBH in 45 Colt (can you tell I like 45 Colt). Always have small 22 with mix of shot and HP.

I never carry a handgun while hunting....too heavy, too impotent, and just more stuff to keep up with. I'd rather replace all that weight and bother with extra ammo for my rifle.
Now, for plinking or just farting around, it's hard to beat a .22 revolver like my stainless Single Six.

That's funny I don't carry a pistol when hunting, but when I am working/messing around in the offseason I carry that exact same HS .22 loaded with hollow points too. Mine was a Christmas gift from a long time ago.

I'd like to have another one for my daughter since she likes shooting mine better than any of the others...
