Looking out that way and wondered if anybody had an opinion of the area as far as population and quality? Looks like good country for whitetail!

We hunt the NE corner of Callahan county. Decent deer population but we don't see any monster bucks.

A lot depends on the property, Some has good numbers while others not as much. Over all though some good hunting. I am in the northeast part of the county as well. Brandon I bet we are not that far apart in hunting location.

1st year on a lease on the Callahan/Shackleford line, decent bucks on cam, we'll see come Nov just how good the hunting is.

kmon1, We are about 3 miles south east of Moran. These are typical size bucks we see while hunting and on occasion will see a bigger one stroll past a camera. LOTS OF PIGS!

if you feed protein and let your deer get some age 150"+ is definitely a possibility. decent amount of hunting pressure around us unfortunately. numbers down a little bit with the droughts in 11 and 13, but we still have high enough numbers that we'll need to manage them thru the gun barrel this year.

Brandon, that looks a lot like some of our setups, about 4 miles SW of Moran.

We are on 480ac between 880 and Hw6 south of Moran. No hogs, limited deer on cams so far. We'll have to compare notes over lunch some weekend.

Appreciate the replies, sounds like a decent area. Thinking about jumping on a lease out that way, guess I'll have to go look at it!!

I'm on a place out there between Putnam and Baird. First year, but the game cam pics are encouraging. Only have 2 large hogs hitting the feeder as well.

We were south of 20 by Putnam. Had a couple of good sized bucks taken, but density was real low. You could go many hunts and weekends and not see a deer at all, but this was over 10 years ago. Good luck and let us know!

We're on a new lease just N of 20 in far NW Eastland county....just got everything set up and running and will check cameras this weekend. Everything I'm hearing is that hogs & yotes are plentiful and that there are some good bucks around if you're willing to let 'em walk. Hope to see some good ones on camera Saturday.
