Academy Here in College Station stocks the 6.5 They had 18 boxes of 6.5 Creed and no 257 Roberts last week. I have 3 cases of 257 Roberts on back order for my father in law and its been 6 months and still don't have it. Yeah go figure I bought a 243 and walked into academy looking for some ammo no such luck at several locations, but every single one of them had a stack of 6.5... im kinda regretting not getting one, but the wife likes the 243 so im still ok with it.

Have an oppurtunity to purchase a Kimber in 257 Roberts. Gun is extremely nice and feels good to fit. However, know nothing about the caliber. Ammo seems sparse and expensive from my limited research. Just curious if anyone else uses this caliber. Intention would be for deer.
THanks As others have mentioned, the .257 is primarily a reloaders cartridge. You can also get the Kimber in 7-08 and 308 (and also 243 I believe) . If you're not a reloader, these may be better choices for you.

Ive been using a 257 Roberts for 3-4 years now. Ive shot coyotes, deer and several hogs with it and it works great. The farthest shot Ive taken with it was right at 300 yards on a hog and it dropped it. Ive never had anything run off but I guess that goes with any caliber if your shot placement is on. I don't think you'll ever find 257 ammo at places like Walmart or Academy but Cabelas has it sometimes. I get mine at Pigeon Road in Stephenville and if I see it anywhere else I buy it. The small "Mom & Pop" gun shops are the best place to look, its out there but you have to look for it. Its definitely a caliber I will use from now on.

I reload and really like my 257 Roberts. A 100 gr. NP really does a good job on hill country critters.

There's not a thing in the world wrong with the .257 Roberts, but I sure wouldn't buy a Kimber. I've had two, one was an 82G that just didn't live up to its potential as a target rifle, and the other was an 84M Classic that was a joy to handle and was gorgeous but shot horribly. I'd buy a Ruger American before I'd buy a Kimber.
