http://blog.eastmans.com/is-public-land-set-to-be-sold/But no larger picture or specifics on what public land is in question and where this land may be sold. I've witnessed many closures of public access out west and know of areas that are now off limits but lately I'm hearing more and more about large tracts of public land being sold off to generate dollars at different State and Federal levels. This may be a slippery slope...

I disagree in principle with the Federal Government being able to own land outside of what is specifically and legislatively set aside as a federal base, preserve or national park.
Land belongs to the States, and to the people. If the people of a state want to sell the public land, that should be an issue they get to decide, it should not be an unelected bureaucratic decision that has no input or recourse from the citizens.

Theses turds in Washington are all a bunch of whores. They have all their hunting needs fulfilled for the few of them that do hunt so they will sell us down the river without blinking an eye because this is what they do to us in Washington on a daily basis.

The fed owns a full 1/3 of the land mass of the U.S. I agree with you that other than military bases, fed buildings, etc. the fed shouldn't own ANY land. You want to see mismanagement? Put the fed in charge of it. Here's where bad things can happen for the hunting community. If the fed owns land, it is controlled by popular opinion. No amount of "protecting" fed land for hunting will protect hunting rights when hunting becomes politically incorrect (we are fast approaching that day). I would LOVE to see the states take whatever fed land is in their boundaries and then sell the vast majority of it to private entities. The revenue would fill the states' coffers and allow the fed to cut back on state subsidies. Win win win.
