Thinking of growing some food plots for this season, never have tried since I moved to Texas, any recommendations on the best to grow in this area with the little rain and hot temperatures? My lease is in freestone county. Thanks!

Talk to your County Extension agent and get his feedback. Call the guys at Turner Seed Co in Breckenridge and get their input.

I suggest lots of research ahead of time - if you are not a farmer and not in the right place in Texas you will spend lots of time money and effort for no results - tread carefully and slowly is my advice. If a ranch can establish and maintain productive food plots there is nothing better - not even protein - food plots can grow the biggest deer IF you can produce food plots

Alec,

Just got on a hunting lease in freestone co with one other hunter. We are off 833 and 131. I am new to the area too and
posted a thread on here about what to plant for a good plot. I got some good feedback on an Oat and Wheat blend. What part of
the county are you guys in??

We just got on a new one acouple miles south of Richland chambers. About a mile as the crow flies from the Richland WMA so I'm hoping we will have some good deer. We have been on one 15 miles east of fairfield for the past 6 years but due to the owners selling it this offseason we had to get a new one. We had lots of deer on our old one but the big ones were far between.
