Has anyone done this? All I keep hearing about is people using diesel to attract hogs and they all say it works and draws them in immediately. Have any of you guys tried it? And what's the best way to use it? Thanks

Most people put diesel on their corn to keep deer from eating it. If you are trapping and selling don't use it. Will give them the scours and they loose weight. Buyer don like that. I sometimes use burnt motor oil around pens.

Hog Wild has a fruity smell they seem to like. I can't even breathe through my nose and I can smell Hog Wild from 100 yds away.

Plain corn. The only thing anything else does is transfer money from your to theirs.

I don't know if it attracts them or not, but it does keep deer and horses away from the corn

theirs been dozens of debate on using diesel mixed with corn in just the short time i've been on here. they say only hogs will eat it. i've tried taking flaked mallasses putting in 3 leter bottles hole drilled in bottom & adding warm water using it as drip for an attractant, have seen hogs bye it, even bedded. they dont stay around long enough ta really say for sure. best wishes stay with it. flag

I've used it in the past in traps and it kept the coons and deer away. Just a little is all it really takes, no need to soak it or anything like that. Also, if you put oil/diesel on a tree or pole in the area they will start using it as a rub pole!

If the hogs have been "educated" over hog wild they'll just smell where NOT to go....kinda like trap wise hogs.

Corn, they love rubbing on used motor oil or old tepee phone poles. Bi
IMHO hog attractants are gimmicks.

I have used diesel on corn or milo and still caught a deer or coons in the trap. I had cottontails and quail eating at the traps also. With the expense of it I quit using it a long time ago. Sometimes as an attractant I will use .10 package of plain koolaid in a quart or gallon of water poured over the trap and bait in it. I use pelletized sweet feed as a bait along with corn/milo now. I will hang a burnt oil rag in the trap also from time to time. I have also found that moving my traps around helps catch on trails leading to feed or watering areas.

I've started to add some regular old koolaide powder to my corn sometimes. it definitely makes it smell stronger. I dunno if the hogs really like it anymore or not than just plain corn. I've heard of the diesel before. I dunno.....just don't seem right to me. I don't truthfully think it attracts them any better.

I do eat many of the hogs I catch. I don't want to eat a hog with a belly full of diesel corn. and diesel is expensive.

I see no real reason to use it. not when you can catch all the hogs you want with plain corn.

Yeah, that 50 cents' worth per barrel it might cost is pretty prohibitive, LOL. If it worked, it would be downright cheap!

No real indication that it works better than plain corn for attracting hogs.

I mixed 5 gallons of diesel, corn, wheat, Soybeans, beer, garlic salt, water and hog wild. Put it out at 12pm, got in my stand at 10 pm and had 30 plus hogs tearing it up by midnight. Such a STRONG smell. Just felt like testing something new. Same mix worked 2 nights in a row and resulted in 5 dead pigs.

English not that good, attract is key word. corn alone will keep hogs around. the diesel is used for souring giving it more of an aroma increasing distance for smell. internet is running slow, so thumbs-up on thread. never tried the diesel, but learned hogs are not the only ones it draws. flag

I believe the only advantage of diesel on corn is that only hogs will eat it it's not a bad idea for keeping deer from getting in hog traps but that's about it. A few years ago I tried trapping hogs and one night I found a doe caught in my trap I managed to get her out with minimal harm but that was the end of my trapping experiment I hate the hogs but I really value my deer and would hate to lose one to an accident I caused, and besides shooting them is much more fun to do.

In the past, we've taken burlap, wrap it around tree trunks, then splash diesel on the burlap. We've noticed the burlap gets rubbed quite a bit. I've heard that the diesel acts as a bug repellant for the hogs and thats why they rub the diesel soaked burlap. Come to think about it, I've never smelled diesel on any hogs we've shot back then.

Garlic salt? That is a new one. Keeps the vampires from stealing the corn, I suppose. roflmao
