Went out on a hunt in Alabama with a gentleman that had 2 German Jagdterriers (German Hunting Dog) and boy were they great dogs. I mean they went after everything. We were squirrel and coon hunting but he said that he takes them on every hunt he goes on. Hogs, Bobcats, Coyotes and even when they run deer. Said they are great family dogs as well. Do yall know much about them? Looking at getting one if I could find out more about them.

I never seen one but hear they are hell on wheels! Supposed to be good blood trackers as well. Never heard anything about being great family dogs and that's probably for a good reason. I don't think many terriers especially direct from hunting lines could be called that.

Saw a hunting video that used one of them (name was 'Jazz') to track wounded / dead deer. It was a young dog so they were 'training' it on deer they knew where they were to boost confidence.

I had an awesome little female while living in Germany; she was the fastest maturing and furious hunting dog I've owned. Unfortunately, she wouldn't accept my daughter (9 yrs), consistently growling; I tried all the tricks to establish the proper pecking order. Christmas night 2009, the dog bit my daughter in the face, about a half inch below the eye and off to the ER. Needless, to say the dog was rehomed to breeder two days later.

With that being said, again she was mayhem on fur. The best critter destroying dog I've worked with, but not a good family dog. My Netherland friends say, "Jagd Terriers aren't pets; they're weapons."

Good to know. The wife is talking babies so I doubt this would fly.

Neighbor of mine has 2. They won 2nd place in a hog baying competition. They are great dogs and friendly as it gets.
