ok guys i posted before and kinda asked about snake boots. Now I'm not just looking to drop a lot of money in several pairs of boots. With that said... I am seriously getting into bowhunting this year, mainly off of ground blind situations and such. Ive been spoiled forever and hunted out of a tower blind 200 yes from the feeder, blah blah nothing difficult. Now while I haven't seen too many snakes, Im obviously gonna be on the ground more now than before. Im not asking which brand etcetera is better or anything else, simply asking snake boots or not... I bought a pair of UA browtine boots a couple months ago and have yet to wear them, mainly since I haven't decided if I want them or not... Found a very comfortable pair of snake boots, and am debating exchanging them. The ones I had previously finally bit the dust and so I either need to go with the ones I bought or the trade in... I guess what Im asking is, are they practical? Does anyone else wear them while bow hunting, or just hunting in general? Or am I just being overly cautious? Thanks for the help

Why not just get some comfortable boots and add on some snake guards?

I find that as I age and acquire blessings (wife, kids, etc.), and see war-torn parts of the world, I realize more and more how mortal I am.

I bought a pair of snake boots (Cabela's lace-ups) a couple of years ago and I now wear them anytime I'm in the field and it's not cold enough to wear my insulated Mucks, which is usually > 50 degrees.

Do it, you'll never be sorry wearing snake boots. My next pair will be slip-ons or zip-ups instead of lace-ups. Probably some Chippewas.

I sort of went through the whole thing. First the hard plastic snake guards and bird shooter boots. Light as air but the hard plastic squeaked when I walked, forget that for ground hunting. I saw a pair of hard leather pateens (I think that's how you spell it)for $10. wore those while. Then the Rocky knee high rubber boots- really good because water proof, scent proof but very heavy and you need 2 pair of socks or the boot top wears your hide away. Then Rocky lace up boots. They aren't waterproof/scent proof but I've worn them to 15' high tree stands bow hunting and have had deer walk RIGHT UNDER my stand with no signs they have picked up the scent. That's where I am right now- the Rocky lace up the front. They are light enough to wear as a regular hunting boot and they don't beat up your legs. If I was in extreme east Texas in wet terrain then I'd go back to the knee high rubber boots.
BTW, as the years have rolled by and I've made a mental tally of the number of snakes I've seen, you sort of have to reach your own comfort zone but if I'm bird hunting during the day- I skip the snake boots. I wear them when I can't see my feet (Night, really high dense grass).

Thanks Dave Scott. I have always worn snake boots in the field, never even had a pair of hunting boots per say. If Im dove hunting Im wearing tennis shoes if its super hot or maybe pants and pull on work boots. Since my old trusty snake boots finally wore out, I was left debating whether or not I really needed them... Thats when I got the UA browtines. Deep down I knew I didn't like the fact that there were laces, for obvious reasons... Overall I was trying to go the right route for bowhunting. I have talked to guys that wear work boots, or just cheap hunting boots bowhunting in both ground and tree blinds. Most just say that if you are decently careful with your shoes as far as not getting gas and such with them then you are ok, or at most just spray your shoes and body with scent away. As we all know scent blocking clothes don't really do a whole lot... My thoughts were go with the snake boots until its too cold and then go with rubber boots. Am I on the right track?

Kind of hard to say not knowing where you're hunting, I don't do much deer hunting outside out deep S TX, but I can tell you that some of the rattlers I've killed down there will make wearing snake boots a no-brainer.

I kind of err on the side of caution and don't want to be left saying I wish I had some on after being tagged by a snake. Thing is you never know, you might never have one hit you and again you could get hit the next time out.

Normally dove and bowhunting weather is snake weather...wear snake boots. I have some Chippewa zip ups...very comfortable.... easy on and off. The only time I wear rubber boots is if its cold and I have to walk thru wetlands. My winter boots are danners

I decided to go with the rocky long range square toe snake boots. Think it's gonna be a good choice.
