Is there some kind of law that would keep me from selling a mallard that I had mounted?

I don't think you can sell federal game birds
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yes, you would have to have documentation that it was a farm raised bird. Its a federal law that you cant sell wild duck mounts.

So I assume you can just give it away? Correct?
Disclaimer: I dont actually have one. I know a guy that got a couple thinking he would make a few bucks reselling them, then heard that it was illegal to sell them. So I was just wanting to confirm what he heard.

You could however sell the base its mounted to and give the duck away.

That law has never made any sense (shocker since its federal) to me. I can understand if you are exporting it or it is a national bird/endangered ie the bald eagle.
I bet its cause the gov can't regulate taxing it. It isn't to protect conservation in any form. They couldn't care less about that.
Anything the gov can't tax that you do or sell they make a law against it. Such freedom via scare tactics. I heard the other day on the radio they are going to tax yoga in certain states.

I would imagine it has ties to market hunting being so destructive.

So I couldn't sell feathers on eBay for fly tying? Yes, you would have to have documentation that it was a farm raised bird. Its a federal law that you cant sell wild duck mounts. Or any parts there of. And just so you know, this IS something they watch for closely and show little mercy on. Don't do it.
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

I just wanted to make it clear that it's something they take seriously, and if you want to take advantage of the exceptions, such as that, then it would be best to look it up through USFWS.

I saw this thread the other day and was walking around canton on Friday one guy had a bunch of mounts for sale and had no less than a dozen Waterfowel mounts guess he didn't read up on the rules.

Walter I'm guessing this wasn't the case, but you can sell pen raised birds with the proper paperwork.
