With all due respect, what the hell did you take her in for if you could not keep her? I really hate when people post things on sites about animals they need to get rid of and then follow it up with, "we are going to take her to the pound if we cannot find a home".
When you take a dog in, it is either for Good, or till you find him/her a home. You might as well have left her where she was at.
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

JR, most of us hear know where you are coming from, but lets look at the positive side. At least they have the dog on here to try to find a good home. A lot of people would just drop the dog off in the country and wipe their hands clean.
Great looking pup. I sure hope you find a home for her. If you were in my area, I would throw in free training to the person that adopts here.
There has got to be some duck hunter that needs a good retriever. You can't bet the fetch out of a Lab folks.....99.9% can be trained by just watching/reading a few books on training them. Watch "Water Dog" and read "10 minute retriever" and you will be able to train her in about 4 months by yourself.

I wouldn't be so hard on the OP. They were probably trying to do what was, in their hearts, the right thing for the dog.
The hard part for most hunters is just taking a dog of unknown breeding and genetics is normally a recipe for failure. Starting training at that age already puts you two months behind in the training process and you've lost some of the critical period for a gun dogs impressionable training time. Not to mention the thousands of hours and dollars you put into a dog and then their hips fail or other genetically traced medical issues arise that cost you a great hunting partner and friend and you have to put your dog down.
I applaud people who want to do what they think is right to "save" an animal but the reality is, like with my daughter's dog, it is often not a great practice or situation. We created the unnatural situation that causes so many uncared for and unkempt domestic breeds of animals. Although it is distasteful to many people the humane thing to do is euthanize most of them.

Please dont judge and be a jerk when you dont know the scope of the situation. I found her at midnight wimpering and turning circles in the middle of the road in galena park. I was NOT going to leave her there to get run over. Personally i am a person that once i have an animal they're my family for life through thick and thin; my husband does not feel that way. Since my infant son needs a dad in his life more than he needs a puppy im chosing to not ruin my marriage fighting over the dog. I understand how you feel but passing blind judgement on someone is just as horrible.

So are the downsides to an unknown lab so great that no one is willing to take this pup in?
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I'm thinking. I have 3 now. A white and 2 blacks. All girls. All spayed. I live in town and have a half acre yard.

I understand how you feel but passing blind judgement on someone is just as horrible. Good on you adevil. Taking an unknown dog into your life is a challenge. I chose my Brittany Max from Brittany rescue when Abby needed a friend. He was such a good looking dog that my wife said yes instantly. Max was scared of his own shadow not to mention thunderstorms, fireworks and gunshots. My little man started his life on the balcony of an apartment complex in Houston. Really? What was this person thinking? Worked with him over the last couple of years and he has made a complete 360 from where he was. Took a lot of patience and training but he is my little buddy and will always be. When I shoot at dove over him and miss he looks at me like WTF, you missed. How am I to earn my keep? When I do kill one he is happy to make me happy. He is a constant companion and when I am not home he will sit outside the bedroom door being the man of the house protecting my wife. Point being is you need to be patient with any dog whether they have a big pedigree or not. Quit being a freaking jerk John Russell. Someone needs to take this pup and put her to work.

Good luck finding a good home for the dog!

In defense of Mr Russell I think he probably didn't know the circumstances the pup was rescued under nor did he know the problems the OP was faced with regarding her husband and landlord. If he did then yes he qualifies as a jerk. Mrs Adevil I commend you for your love and passion of animals and encourage you to hang around and enjoy the THF with us. We need more ladies around to keep this place smelling better.
