Had a couple people showing interest in what goes into building firepits, so I figured Id annoy y'all with a build thread.

It all starts with a 5x10 sheet of 3/16 smooth plate. Chop it up into 12" strips for the sides and 18" strips for the bottom with the plasma cutter:

The sides are 30" on top and 18" on bottom, they end up with about an 11" depth once assembled.

Rig it up in my extra fancy jig and tack it together. I'll be able to make a real jig to just drop them in and weld once I have a cnc table to cut exactly similar pieces every time:

Got to love a jig! A nice big high dollar break and you would have one weld. Of course that would take all the fun out of it, I love using my little plasma up

Hiiiigh high dollar! I thought about getting one of those instead of a cnc table, but a big break would only help with firepits as far as what I currently do most of. The table will be able to cut out all kinds of sheet as well as artistic stuff.

I weld all the way down the sides, then on each corner a few inches and about a 3" bead in the middle.

Nice bead up Wire welder and plasma where made for each other.

Have to agree with you on the "brake" too, the size needed would be overkill, unless you where running an assembly line and it still may be cheaper to hire that out and have it delivered. That's part of the reason folks pay more for good "custom" work.

Legs cut out and welded with the 3" strap for the feet:

One of these is going to have two sets of removable legs. It'll be rigged up with 1.75" square pegs, then the legs will have a 3/8" nut welded on to cinch them up to the pegs.

Measuring up and tacking the emblems on followed by the boot rail.

Once it's tacked on the bottom I flip it over and weld up the top. Hit the corners with a flap disc to clean them up and they are ready for paint! Lots of Aggies runnin around these days...

Looks good. up
Maybe I need to buy a better welder and plasma cutter. I could quit making knives and just build stuff.

Very nicely done.
Interesting to see how it all comes together.

Thanks guys, the one with the adjustable legs got painted and picked up before I could remember to snap a picture. The other one will get paint today, and here is the one that MBTECH85 picked up Saturday morning.

Nice. How heavy do they end up? Practical to haul around in the truck when rv camping?

These are decently heavy, not sure on weight but it's hard for me to get it into the truck by myself at 6'1" 290 (muscle weighs more than fat). I did build this last one using thinner 10 gauge sheet instead of 3/16 and made it a couple inches shallower and it is a lot easier to handle. We can also switch up the dimensions and make em smaller if need be.

I'm 5'6" 150 so probably couldn't do it. Lol.

Either way, we want one for the new house when it's done. Set the close date at August 31st today so I'll be in touch around then. Shoot me a pm if you remember and haven't heard from me around then cuz I'll likely have forgotten but want a Tech one for sure.
