I have been trying to bag a yote for about 2 years now. Not one. I had about a 350 yard shot on one a year ago but missed him on the move. i have a mojo critter and fox pro, green lights, ground blinds, guillie suits... all kinds of good gear and gadgets. we have several packs of yotes around, i can hear them every night.

I have been able to call them in pretty close, like TOO CLOSE before, but most of the time they wont come out in the open. any ideas? anyone use live bait? Like trapped cotton tails or chickens? Im just trying to figure something out.

I have tried to move, but how often should i move? how far away do i need to move?

Thanks for any help at all you can give me. These yotes seem to be different than any others that people hunt.

You calling the same place over and over ?
You said you've called them close so why didn't you shoot them ?

i have called a few different locations.

Close..... well, It was about midnight, sitting on a ridge, i had turned the fox pro off and was just listening. Gun in my lap, Green lights off, pitch black for about 5 minutes. When i hit the button on the caller remote and it lit real bright, a large dog gave be a a very starttled sounding set of barks from about 5 yards in front of me as he tore away from me into the trees. Bark was deep (sounded like german shepard or rott). Couldnt see what it was cause i was now night blinded by the display light, but there are no houses or dogs for miles. Dont know what it was, but scared me probly as much as i scared it. lol

You need to have the light running all the time when you have the call on thats probably the number one reason you haven't got a shot at one.When i get to my stand i let it quite down for about ten mins or longer just depends then a hit the light and take a quick scan because i have shot a few fox and yotes like that and i really never turn the light off because if they come in fast you will not know they are there till its to late just like happened to you .

How big is the place your calling and how often are you calling? Never turn the light off til your done. Before you ever blow the call turn the light on and then start scanning. Couldn't tell ya how many times we have lit up a yote before we started calling. Coyotes are smart, once you educate one he will be hard to get back in. One thing to remember is that you can fool a yote in a lot of ways but you will never fool his nose. use the wind to your advantage, he will try to get down wind of you. use that to bring them into an open shooting lane.

When I first started calling, I called one up on the first stand I ever called, nothing but luck, right place at the the right time, then went on a dry spell for a long time before the next one came in. Just don't give up and it will happen.

Some of the best advice I ever received:

-Never turn the light off. Scan the entire time.

-Place the call within 50 yds when calling at night. They can come in hot, and be gone just as quick. If your caller is too far away you may never see them.

Also seems like if it's going to happen, it will happen within 30 mins, 45 tops. If no response, it's time to change stands.

I never turn the light(s) off or stop scanning. The caller is normally right next to me.
