Filson Tin Cloth Field Coat I'd appreciate some feedback if you have.

Yeah, I'll pass on that. Looks like it would last for years, seemed like a good investment.

Filson has good quality stuff but I'm not sure what I'd use that jacket for. I guess if I was big into pheasant hunting it might could be ok for that with a orange vest around it.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

I don't have that jacket but I have their original makinaw wool cruiser. Awesome coat. I also have a wool undercoat that goes with that type jacket I use for deer hunting. You can't go wrong with anything made by Filson if it fits your needs.

I own some Filson gear and love it all and will continue to buy more of it. Best stuff out there if you ask me. That said, make sure it fits your needs. They're heavy coats like that won't get used but maybe a few times here in Texas. If you're going to travel north some and use it more, then I would buy it in a heartbeat. I use their tin cloth chaps for upland hunting, I have a couple of their hats, a wool vest, and just recently purchased one of their bags for work. Everything is build very well and will last for generations if cared for properly.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Oh, and if you want to get your hands on one before buying it, the Orvis store here in Dallas at Preston/NW Hwy carries some Filson gear, although they may not carry that coat this time of year.

Rooster,
Filson makes great coats. Usually for gentlemen that don't shoot $200 870's...
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes

Tin cloth is super stiff. I have a Tim cloth field coat and it took me four years of winter to get it really comfy.
I hunt in an advantage wetlands shelter cloth version. It's lasted through five seasons. Has been comfy from the beginning and shows no signs of wearing out any time soon.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

Agree w beaver- have similar filson w wool liner- upland version w flat pockets on side. Great jacket. Smells like ARS- waxing cloth to keep waterproof doesn't help smell. The dude on RNT wears it.
OLD school. Think it's pretty cool- very durable.
Use my drake waterproof w liner 90% time though. Light and loose. Get u some of new underarmour 3x or 4x thermals. Expensive 90 bucks each top/ bottom- but unbelievable.
Take a kid Huntin

Jimbo " the dude on RNTV" wears a macalister jacket. They are a lot softer than a Filson and have neoprene cuffs and lined hand warmer pockets. Don, those Filson coats get pretty cold, they look good at camp or on mild days but leave it at home when it really gets cold and nasty.

A guy with a bunch of old school gear that has hunted one full season is still a guy that has only hunted one full season. Just buy some duck commander shirts.

I have some Filson tin cloth stuff and I would agree that they are stiff, cold (when it's cold), and very, very durable. For the price, you can get better performance but the birds won't think you're as cool

If you will be using it in conditions that suit their gear, the Filson stuff is excellent. It's expensive, yes, but it's not as expensive as Sitka, for instance. I had one of their game bag belts and it was great, but heavier and hotter than I liked for south Texas dove hunting. You get what you pay for - I just don't hunt in conditions that Filson is made for often enough to make it make sense.

I don't own any Filson jackets. But I bought a UA SkySweeper jacket last winter which I love! It has synthetic goose down for insulation which is extremely light and very warm!

Thanks for all the feedback fellas. Jeff- I found a crew neck sweater on the mcalister website that fit my needs. It has the tin cloth shoulders and arms I was looking for and looks warm and comfortable. If anyones been looking at the Filson guide sweater, this one is very similar but about $150 less. https://drakewaterfowl.com/mcalister/products/outerwear
