I've never seen one in the wild. They are beautiful.

The colors were striking. I should have saved him and made a hat band for my stetson.

They are incredibly doscile snakes are very uninclined to bite. Should have let it live.

Yep. Always wanted to.

I did see a coachwhip yesterday that was nearly yellow. He was too quick to catch for a photo session.

No telling how many pets and small children would have been consumed, otherwise.

I called TPWD and they had no interest in getting him so...

I have 3 small boys 6 and under. Can't risk one of them digging around in leaves or rocks and getting bit. Btw, there is no anti-venom.

A friend of mine got bit by one. He said don't believe the slow to bite idea, it bit very fast and was very painful. The doctor got anti venom from a nearby Air Force base to treat him with.

Correct. There is no such thing as anti-venom.

Yeah, the wife is kinda freaking out. Saw 3 tarantulas in the last week too. No way I'm giving up the place. 4 acres on Lake belton covered in big oaks. The house was a total remodel though. An old doctor lived there and left piles of block and lumber around the house. That's what I'm getting cleaned up.

I've free handed them on multiple occasions. Still here, never bit.

yep, we have killed a number of them around our place on the west side of Georgetown. They usually show up after a rain in the St. Augustine grass and can disappear quickly. Our blue healer usually finds them by sniffing them out. Our cat killed the biggest one I have ever seen and brought it up on the back patio for us to see, it was slightly over 2 foot long. Yes they are pretty, but can be quite deadly.

The fellow I knew that got bit was an experienced snake collector. It was around 1960. They are timid and secretive, but they can bite. I guess the anti venom wasn't used enough to justify continuing making it... Anyhow, it's a beautiful snake, but you did right killing it or relocating it.

They aren't real common anywhere except right here in Brazoria County. I don't know why here, but we see them fairly frequently. They are pretty, but I don't walk around in the grass with flip-flops on. I usually don't kill them. I grab them with a pair of BBQ tongs and put them in a bucket until I drive out by the Brazoria National wildlife refuge. I let them loose there.
