Ive been wanting to get one for the trophy room. Ive never seen one. I have access to properties in Matagorda, Limestone, Brazos and Comanche Counties. Anyone know if they live in these areas? If so, what is the best way to kill one?

Never tried huntin em specifically but we used to have em on our lease in hondo bout 10 years ago. They would get in our stands and tear em all up. Just shot em with a 22 when they poked there heads out of the window lol. I think we killed 14 one year. I think there more insect eaters and what not but they might come to feed. Prob going to be a lot easier to trap one then shoot it. Plus it's gonna look a lot better full bodied with just a 22 hole and not a random sighting and shot with a larger caliber. Wish I could help more but my ringtail experiences are limited. Good luck buddy. If you know there in an area maybe try a coon fight call around a water hole might work, shoot some coons any way

Don't know of the counties you listed but if u wanna check and see all you really need to do is spot light trees like you would for coons. River bottom trees are a good place to look . They r more active at night like a coon

You gotta be darn careful around those vicious creatures, they will jump out of a tree and rip your eyebrows off.

Not to mention the smell. Beautiful creatures though.

I witnessed one disembowel a Rhinoceros once, and the Rhino had nun-chucks. True story.

I've seen 3 in my life. One was in an oak tree being shot at in Cherokee texas. One drown in the horse trough . I called one in at our ranch in palo pinto. Made the stand for cats was using a bird distress on the fox pro. It came fast from the base of a cedar bush knock over the decoy and was gone in three bounds. Didn't even register what was happening until it was over. I turned and ask my partner was that..... He cut me off and said ringtail. I was like that's what I thought. Just odd I've never called in one before or since that day.

My old man killed one in Travis County years ago on Lake Travis.. Got it mounted and think he still has the mount.

I used to hunt them and sell the fur many moons ago. Back then the ranch didn't have as many roads so we walked with a headlamp and the ranch dog. They are nervous and will run, ie the dog. Their eyes are close together and appear as hot charcoal. They den in rock cliffs and hollow logs/trees. If I were to hunt then now, I'd use a spotlight since they will look into a bright light. Back of truck or ATV would do. We hunted mainly mesquite trees with missletoe or cedar berries and hackberry trees.
