Do your home work before you select a breeder!!! You want to stack the odds in your favor!!!You want to make sure the sire/dam are OFA excellent or good on hips and CERT for eyes. I can ask around our Hunting Retriever Club and see if they may have a heads up on good pups. PLEASE do not buy a pup out of your local paper; odds are they are NOT what you are looking for, Pet yes but not a working dog!!!

I can not agree more with you. If you get your pup from a reliable breeder you increase your odds tremendously. The purchase price of a pup is small. Think about what that dog is going to cost you in vet, food and upkeep over the next 8 to 12 years. A good dog will be cheaper in the long run.

dogman trained my first lab...he remembers how hard headed that dog was and stayed with him until he was finally trained....then i got a field trial washout and will never ever start with a puppy again! My next dog, probably in 4 years will be a finished dog. I think in the long run, it will be more enjoyable, better and cheaper.

I will add that dogman has trained a lot of my friends dogs and sold a dog to another, all have turned out to be good hunting dogs!

The $25 is a far cry from what I paid you...LOL,,but it was all worth it...Got 9 1/2 good years with old Bart hunting until he has his spleen removed and retired to be a pet for my parents...Boy they could not get along without that dog, they loved him and he loved them....lived like a king for almost 4 more years until he had a stroke...and I had to put him down. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

However, I have not heard from my now ex-brother in law on how his dog, Maggie is doing, but I know he was pleased with her when you were finished training her......
