Have a large 350 gallon water container for the lease this year. The water will be used for showers, cleaning dishes, deer and any other misc. uses......... Not drinking water. How do I keep down any algae or bacterial growth and still keep the water fit for the above uses?

First make sure your tank is black and then you can buy some of that water freshener, I get mine at Walmart in the camper supply area.

You can also use bleach I don't remember the amount to use but it it is only a few drops per gallon. It is cheap, works fast and will also make the water safe to drink. The instructions are on line.

For all the uses you desciribed, you should have the same quality as drinking water. If you want to wash dishes and shower with it, in order to be sanitary enough to do that it might as well be drinking water clean, otherwise you are putting yourself at risk for disease if it isn't. The above will get you there, just make sure you don't over-clean it, because then you can risk burning your skin in the shower (and come Out a little more blonde) and risk poisoning yourself with the dishes...follow directions closely.

The biggest thing is keeping it out of the sun. We've got a 275 gallon tote that we enclosed in a plywood "shed" to keep the sun off of it. Every time we fill it we add about a quarter cup of bleach per 100 gallons. We used to keep a measuring cup out there, but any more it's pretty much "Eh, about that much." Keeps the algae away, but it's not such a large dose that you'll smell or taste it. We haven't had a problem in the several years we've been doing it this way.
We still drink bottled water while we're out there, but the tank provides for showers, drink ice, cleaning dishes, etc.
