Early July a black and tan coon hound pup showed up on my front doorstep. He was only about two months old, skinny, and had a hurt paw. There had been a lot of instances of people just leaving their pets behind when their homes were foreclosed and I believe that's what happened here. He has an unbelievable nose and was wondering if anyone has expierience in pheasant hunting with one. I would like to do some type of hunting with him, although I don't bear hunt. My only concern with pheasant hunting would be trying to keep his baying and howling under control. Here is a picture of my Chocolate cuddling with him. http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/5025/photo112008002mt4.jpg

I wouldn't want to hunt duck with him unless I got him a good thick neoprene vest. Hist hair is way too short. Hopefully someone here has had some expierience with this.

probably not a lot of people with any experience with this and for a good reason. Why not hunt hogs with them? Should be great for that.
A coon hound i would imagine has a very wide range and would be difficult to keep in range I would think.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

I'm not saying you can't get to retrieve but try the PKC coonhound web site and see if any of those guys can help you out.

Had one when I was a kid and that was a rabbit hunting dude, great fun. Also would bay a copper head, the problem was he would be looking up in the trees baying and of course I would be looking up also and the real "game" was the snake on the ground!! We got that worked out , it was a different bark( stupid me).Good luck, great dogs and very smart .
