Hey everyone, My FIL has a question, looks like he is having to replace his counter cooktop due to it breaking, he has a 30 amp circuit to it right now and needs to go to a 40 amp circuit, other than the breaker (30 to 40) is there anything else that needs to happen? gage of the wiring?

Thanks

When I was putting in my air compressor, I was told at the electrical supply that I would have to go with #8 wire on a 40 amp circuit. Said # 8 was good up to 90' then #6 was needed. He was reading it out of the Electrical Code book IIRC.

That is what I was thinking too, I did a search and found that 30 = 10, 40 = 8, and 50 = 6,

Thanks for the info, I believe that confirms what I was thinking.

No problem, just went through this. BTW, I was getting Copper, if its an older hose with AL, I'd change it or spec the AL wire size. Probably copper in there for the stove though.
