Howdy y'all, I've done a lot of ranting on here and first off I want to thank y'all. Being able to lay my BS bare and have all the feedback has been a huge help. I never thought that pissing and moaning to folks who don't know me would help me un burden my soul. So thank you. The other way I can unburden and help heal myself is through my art, and now I have a place to showcase it, please y'all go take a look and tell me what y'all think. Y'all have been a sounding board for me in the past so please take a quick peak. www.queensglass.com

Tried to look at the photo album, but got the error that my browser is not supported. I'm using Google Chrome on a tablet.

Interesting on the Oliphant, or Olifant, and have always been interested in the the stories behind them. I still have an old hunting horn made by a coon hunter, I received it as a gift back in 1957. For weeks I drove the neighborhood crazy tooting it around until my Dad threatened to burn it if I didn't put it up. Any way, I'm curious as to what your horn actually sounds like??? Any comparison??? Also, any idea how durable it would be. Heck of a conversation piece around the campfire.

Blackcoal, with this type of oliphant, it is designed to be "blown" using a tone in your voice, not tooted like a bugle, so it depends on the person. This was designed after the very basic design of a horn before it was thought of to put a small mouthpiece on and blown like a bugle. It will work if a mouthpiece is put on it, but my design was to create something modeled after a very old piece of technology, it is more of an amplifier than a horn as we understand it today. It is very durable, considering that it is made from glass, it could take a lot of abuse. Now, having said that with this type of glass it isn't so much how much but more what type, this glass is affected by certain things, so if you where to take it and it got hit by someone or lightly dropped onto dirt it wouldn't hurt it, but certain types of vibrations sent through it could cause it to chip or crack. Say, for instance if it was accidently hit against a rifle barrel it could possibly damage it. But I have traveled with this piece and another just like it, it was in a hard plastic case made for multiple pistols and was padded by foam, but it was moved around through the airport, through security on the plane, in a cab and carried around by me as needed, with no adverse effects.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your coon hunter horn if you have any. This project is just beginning for me, I plan to do a study on this type of work for at least a while longer.

Will try to locate it, have not used it in many years. Just a matter of which drawer or box or closet or case it is located.
