I am venturing back into reloading and will be working up loads for .223, .260 Rem and .308 for several AR 15/10 rifles and wondering if Plastic Tipped bullets (A-max, Ballistic Tips, etc.) are recommended. If not, what type target bullet is recommended? Thanks in advance.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

I honestly never researched it but I have been firing ballistic tips out of my DPMS LR for a while now.

55grain VMAX's are incredibly accurate over Ramshot Tac on several AR's I've fired. Not a single problem that I can trace to bullet. Very effective on pigs in a pinch too with good shot placement.

They should be fine. I have heard of some of the Barnes black tipped breaking off in the 300 blk out. But the tip on these bullets is about twice as long as a normal one.

I found out that you can't go by the oal in the chamber because if you use that measurement it will be too long for the magazine. Just seat your bullets to clear the magazine. Of course I haven't tried to shoot mine yet at the range because I just loaded mine. So I guess that will tell me something.

I load V-Max and Nosler BT in my 5.56 and 6.8 SPC AR's with no problems at all.

The plastic pointed bullets tend to feed better than everything but a FMJ. If you park the PMags and get a quality metal magazine, you can load out to a much longer OAL as the walls of metal mags are much tinnner than plastic ones.
I use quite a few 120gr Hornady SSTs and 95gr TTSXs in my 6.8 and they feed very well and are easily MOA if you do your part. Both of those are bad news for a pig!
In my .223 Wylde AR, I load the 75gr AMaxs as long as the mag will alow and they are easily .5 MOA if/when my shaky ole butt can hold the gun! I use 70gr TSXs for pigs in the 223 Wylde.
I also use 325gr FTXs and 250gr MonoFlexs (both plastic pointed Hornady) bullets in my 458 SoCom.

Can't beat the Accubond. And there should be no feeding issues at all.

I got a little problem with Hornady SST on my AR10. you can try pull the chargehandle back to eject one after the feed. You may see the damaged plastic head.

Yes, it may scratch the tip, but it will still shoot just fine. I've shot a few SST's without the tip at 200, and shot the same.
