Doughboy, I am in the exact same position as you. I just got my first semi auto and I can't wait to try it out this season. I have been looking for Arkansas Flooded timber guides. THF is great for people like us who loves hunting and talking with like minded individuals. We need a folder inside THF where we can meet people to join in hunts, because it seems that you can get a better deal on guided hunts if you come as a group.

I run Riceland Waterfowl Club here in the areas of Katy, Eagle Lake, Garwood, and El Campo. We don't guide on our land, it's for club members only. I know what I'm talking about when I tell you to check out Kent Outdoors in North Texas for a great guided duck hunt. He is a honest man and a very good duck caller. We have teamed up on several calling contest and have done well each time.

I'd call Elder at silver creek for DFW, they shoot more ducks than anybody in NTX. Bobby Luna down at the coast. If you're looking for a calling contest any guide in Arkansas can help you out, they're pretty much all equally retarded out there.

I really hate threads like this and I think most guides that are any count do also. These just become popularity contest. Do your research and find a guide that's been at it a while. Most cheap deals are usually bad deals, so stay away from them. Your smaller more hands on outfitters usually offer more customer service and usually make things right if the hunt was just bad. Try and stay away from full moon when booking your hunt. Good luck

Didn't Slemp work with David Pruett? Not trying to stir the pot but I thought there was a connection there at one time... Correct me if I'm wrong.

Was not trying to do a popularity vote. New to duck hunting and want to hunt with some guys I can learn from .. Was not meant to be ugly or anything ..
I see guides posting all the time and jut wondering how to choose the right ones.
All websites are the same and prices are almost the same..

Getting a recommendation is a great idea, but sometimes on forums it doesn't quite work out as planned. Many of the recommendation you will get are from people that haven't used any of the people they are referring.

Any of the local guys that frequent this forum will treat you right. Otherwise we run em outta town. Everyone wants something different from a guide, call em up, talk to em, and see who you like.

As far as Arkansas goes, I grew up there, and rarely do you hear much good about the general outfitter you find. That said, I have a buddy I trust that has gone with buckshot lodge, and said they're the real deal, better bring a well stuffed pocketbook tho. There is a fair amount of public land, get you a boat, and a map, and start asking questions, and you can do pretty good if you time the water and weather right.

You definitely have to wade through the bs to get the real information on forums. There are so many people that have the "herd" mentality and want to jump on the band wagon for endorsing guides that they have never even met. And, just because they frequent this forum doesn't make them the best either. Generally speaking, if you hear a lot of great reviews and zero negative reviews about a guide, the better chance you have at getting a good one (but not always the case). And, just because you talk to them on the phone doesn't mean they are telling you the truth. I (by choice) don't give negative reviews on the forums. However, when I do a positive review for someone, you can bet that I hunted with them and they were, in fact, great. I sure wish everyone else would do the same.....

For the record, I do about 2 guided hunts a year (some from this forum) and 2 out of 10 were great, 5 average and 3 horrible (this is counting all guided hunting and fishing trips). All of them had great reviews from forums. My best hunts are usually with younger guides from small towns that do it for the fun and not a living. Get 3 hours north of DFW and guides are a lot cheaper and the pressure on the birds is a lot less.
