If there's no kids in the house yes. Any guests you have over won't know it's there. It's not protected from theft, but I believe you can't defend yourself with a locked up weapon anyways. I keep mine in the corner of the closet with a soft gun case unzipped half way sitting on top of it behind the clothes. It'll work fine until my daughter is a little older. But for now it keeps it close, but the trigger protected.

Great idea. Im gonna look at making one of those mounts for mine too.
I have a 6yo in the house but she has been taught well about guns. She wont even touch a toy gun without checking with me or mom to make sure its not real. I too believe a gun locked up is useless. Chit happens way to fast and you wont always have a chance or even the mind capacity to enter a digital or mechanical combo.

Why not set it on the floor like everyone else? Not tactical enough?

I do make these to sell, but if you want to make this yourself let me know, and I will show you how I make it. It does not mount to the door trim, it mounts to the Jack Stand that supports the door header, and overlaps the trim. I can also show you how to add a lock that will keep the weapon from being removed from the rack. ( Please note for real safety you would need to use a trigger lock or put the weapon back in your gun safe )
Some good feedback that I received is to add a lower shelf to put some ammo on.

I like that. Nice, neat clean installation. Only other thing I'd add, is a clothes hook above the shotgun. Hang my bathrobe up. Shotgun disappears under it.
No one the wiser.
Very nice.

Very nice. Just hang yer robe on the barrel. It wont hurt a thang and even if need be you can blast right through the robe.

You have a lot of neat products on your site.
To the question of why not just on the floor......I have had a dog and cat knock over one of my shotguns while it was leaned up behind a door. Also I can see that it keeps the action area closer to the hand height making it easier to grab and have your hand at the action when it is GO time. Fewer movements and motions to go through when SECONDS COUNT.

I like it, great thinking. I think its much better than setting on the floor as keeping it high keeps it out of reach of smaller children. For that purpose I would actually mount it a little higher.

My issue is grand kids. And one never knows when guests with kids may come by and the wife is home and I'm not. So by law I keep the loaded home defense guns locked up or in a safe access place I can get them quickly but others can't.
I worry about the kids far more than a perp. Plus the law will hold you liable if a kid were to get a hold of a loaded gun.

Looks like a great idea for when the kids turn 18.
Are you selling them? Is there rubber around the barrel contact points?

Can you see the black between the jam and door when its open? Solution would be to paint the holder and shotgun white. Semi gloss or eggshell?

Yes, you can see the edge of the holder and weapon.

The difference is that in my house my bedroom is off limits to guests with few exceptions. Beyond that if you are expecting guests with small kids you have a couple of options. ...lock the guns up then or make your bedroom off limits

Looks like a cool idea.
I couple ideas for those who are nervous with small kids.....
Mount it a couple feet higher so the top of the barrel is even with the top of the door frame. Add a velcro strap around the shotgun to secure it to the mount.
I doubt a small kid can push the release, rack a shotgun to put a shell in the chamber, take it off safety, and pull the trigger.

I like the looks of this mount. I had to put some thought into weapons access when we moved. My kids are well educated relative to firearms but I have no confidence that thier friends or even adults that visit us have common sense. I personally keep an AR with mag inserted no round in chamber with a trigger lock installed out of sight. Not fast enough to deploy for self defense unless I'm attacked by a plodding army. I have a locked pistol safe on my bedside table that I keep my ccw and a larger pistol in loaded and ready to go.
I encourage everyone to put some thought into this. You just never know what could happen. If you have a family you can not be sure that someone will not access your weapons. You also don't want some crazy to report that your home is not "safe" for your kids and those folks are out there.

True, but that doesn't make it any less illegal.
