The only downside to joining. too much email/snail mail and phone calls

They haven't bothered me much for several years now. I get a piece of mail from them every once in a while, get an occasional email, & they never call me.

I've donated a few times over the years. Mail is not much to speak of nor are phone calls... though in part this may be due to not answering calls from unknown numbers.

No kidding. They sell your info to anybody and everybody. I get more junk mail than I have time to look at.

You can ask them not to send junk or contact you and they will comply.

I went to the "contact us" page on their website and gave them my email address and phone number. I submitted a comment that if I got one more solicitation call from them they would never see another penny from me. They were calling several times a week over the past few months. It may just be a coincidence but I haven't had a single call since.

If you contact member services via phone and ask to be removed from their list they will comply. But be careful what you ask for, you could be removed from ALL mailings, even the one's you might want (like your magazine). As for selling your information to others, wrong. You go through life making contacts all over and get put on mailing lists in so many ways (like going on a company web-site or such). The NRA jealously guards its member lists. Don't believe me? Call and ask them to sell you a list of the mailing addresses in your home town and see what you're told. There is no sane reason for them to sell your information. Not even for money. WHY would they risk sending YOUR information to some company that just might pass it along to the local newspaper (for listing as either a gun-owner or CHL holder like New York City did)? Think you're hacked off at them for calling, how would you feel to see your name and address in the newspaper listing you as a gun owner? Especially if you live in one of the metro areas around the state. Yeah, go ahead and claim that you'd 'take care of' anyone that tried to take your stuff or hurt your family but, are you planning on staying awake 24/7/365 and working from home as well?

The NRA may not be perfect but it's by far better than whatever is in second place. IMO, our RIGHTS are worth tossing a piece of mail in the trash or hanging up on someone calling for me to know that there is SOMEONE out there helping to defend my rights. And when I DO have a little extra, I send it to them.

So, ask yourself, is throwing away a few pieces of mail, whether a week, a month or a day, really all that much of a problem to you? More than losing your Rights?
