Anyone use snares??? I have field fence around my ranch but have noticed a few places where some thing has dug under the fence my guess is coyote, there are some in the area most come to a call very well, problem is I hooked up my neighbor but he is a bad shot and has missed 4-5 in the last few weeks so do not see them coming to a call again.
So my plan is buy some snares and set them where some thing is digging under my fence.
So any tips would be great... thanks

I would look on YouTube before you head out. Look up "loading a snare" and "snare supports" support should be solid. The snare should not be able to swing or anything, and should be "loaded" as to spring shut when an animal puts pressure on the bottom of the loop. You can properly load the snare by working the loop over a nail hammered a little but into a 2 by 4. Do a little research on loop size and blocking. You want the coyote to see nothing but a clear hole where your snare is. Keep the snare off the ground about 2 in so that it can fire correctly. Place a small stick on each side of your loop about 3 in from opening angled away from the loop sticking about a half in to an in out of the ground. This is called a chin up and insures the animal to lift it's head to go through the loop and not drag the bottom. Block the sides down good and make it look like a perfect little hole to pass through. Bout an 8 to 9 in loop on crawl unders should give you a good neck shot. Good luck. Don't set anything bigger than 12 or 14 in crossing. Deer will use those too. That's where your blocking comes into play to make that crossing smaller and force the deer to go over. Kind of tough time though snaring right now due to fawns dropping. The fawns will go through those small holes too so keep that in mind. Good luck

So any tips would be great... thanks I'm no expert or anything......but I do run snares and have pretty good success. I start by finding a good dig. then I take a thick piece of ranch wife and secure it to the loop at the end of the snare. I make the loop about 7"-8" across. I put the loop in the dig then secure it to the fence by putting a bobby pen at the top holding the loop to the wire. it secures it and keeps it from swinging but it pulls off pretty easily when the animals get snared.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I would check to see if you have a county trapper. We use one and he is very successful.

I would buy connibear traps, but get some help or info on how to set them.
