Looking into buying an AR-10. Anyone have any suggestions regarding what make or model to purchase or stay away from?

AR-10's are just as all over the map as AR-15's. It depends on what you want. Do you want something with a shorter lighter barrel, or do you want something with a long bull barrel? What kind of stock do you want? What kind of handguard? Obviously the sky is the limit and the prices range from semi-reasonable to obscene. In terms of value, I like what DPMS has to offer. Their models bring a lot to the table, but there are many others. Also consider if you want to run it in 308, or something fancy like 6.5 Creedmoor, etc.

I love my sig 716. Came with a factory quad rail and is very accurate. Little on the heavy side but the extra weight isn't always bad.

What's your planned use for the gun and your budget? You could get a cheapo for about a grand or a top of the line JP or KAC for over 4K. Tons of stuff in between.

I'm wanting something that I can hunt with and something I can play with at long ranges. I like the heavy barrel. I'm not wanting to spend more than 2k.

The Armalite AR-10 rifles are really good. If you want a more target rifle, the AR-10T is a great rifle. Easy sub MOA accuracy with good ammo.

If you're talking 2k without the scope, mount, bipod, etc. then you're at least close to something that you can go long range as well as hunt with. For that money, you might just look at building your own as well. Like Chad said, the armalite is a good choice in that range.

Long range precision costs money though, especially in a semi auto. The top choices in big bore precision AR's tend to be at least 3K for the rifle alone. These are the GAP's, Larue's, JP's, etc. . If you want the whole rig for 2K counting everything then you're going to be looking at more of a budget rifle to start with. If you want to shoot at long range then you're going to have to put some money into the glass. You could always start with a good rifle and less expensive glass which you can upgrade later.

In that price range you should look at a CMMG MK-3. The new ones have key-mod rails which are sweet. I own an older version and it's one heck of a shooter. It can hang with all my bolt guns at 100 yards as far as accuracy goes. It's not picky about what you feed it and mine has cycled everything flawlessly after broken in.

X2 on the MK3, I just bought one of the new version MK3 CBR. 1:10 twist 16" match barrel with 15" keymod rail and all magpul furniture. Best of all is the Gesselle SSA trigger that comes in it. I like it a lot better than my POF I had.

I put a SWFA 12x MIL/MIL scope in a Larue 20MOA mount.

With all the accessories I put on it, bipod, sling, scope, mount, sling mounts, bipod mounts blah blah blah, I have a little under $2300 in it.

It is the one on top.

Check out the Rock River Predator. I just picked one up on Gun Broker for less than 1500.00. I have the varmint in .223 and it shoots great.
Haven't got to shoot the .308 yet but hope to as soon as I get some optics picked out for it.

I'll second the recommendation on the Sig 716 if you are not looking for long range precision. The short stroke push rod adds weight; which reduces recoil felt. The Magpul stock is nothing special. Works well with an Eotech 552; and the factory iron sights are useful. The included sling is not cheap crap either; even if it is not a single point tactical. The melonite coating inside the barrell makes cleaning a quick job. I can get 1MOA groups with the Eotech and no magnifier.

I have an M&P 10. I really enjoy that they made all the controls ambidextrous. It's a great shooting rifle and a perfect pig gun.

Of all those listed, based on the specs, I'd go for the cmmg. You're next step up to improve on that will be close to double the money.

Love my sig 716. Rebarreled it from a 308 to a 22-243 in a 21 inch barrel and put a timney in it.

You could always go for the Sig P716 "pistol" https://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p716-12-psb.aspx

Love my DPMS Recon. Nice shooter for $1,500.

However, my next purchase is a CMMG MK3 CBR.

If this is a highjack, I apologize. How come you don't see .243, 260 Rem, or 7mm-08 offered? The AR-10s seem to be .308 for the most part, at least in factory config. If DPMS and others would expand their line to include other RTG calibers, they could increase their appeal, especially to shooters of bolt rifles.

While the AR15s are mostly all mil-spec, for some reason AR10s are not. I found this out trying to get a arm guard for my M&P.
