Just moved into the area, have driven 45-60 minutes in all possible directions. Cant seem to locate an area to hunt for hog. Any insight would be great. Looking to do some hunting while on r/r in June. Thanks for the help.

Wish I could hunt them close by here, but city regs prevent me. Just a half mile from my house on Skyline Drive I found evidence of pigs rooting in a new portion of the subdivision being developed. Here they come! I've been fortunate to find some ranchers within a 45 minute drive that want me to kill pigs on their ranch. Helps to know someone who can vouch for you in those situations.

I don't know of anyplace close to Copperas Cove that does hunts personally. Ive heard about the DB ranch but don't have any personal experience with it. I'm lucky in that I have friends who have several ranch's that we hunt for pigs on up in Hamilton county.

You need to adjust your distance expectations, one hour will give you a very limited selection, three hours will give you a lot. When I was stationed at Ft Hood a lot of guys would go down to Eagle Lake duck hunting. Eagle Lake Exotics has bargain hunts for two hunters. WRS ranch near Kerrville has pig hunts both are between two and three hours. Look at postings in the Exotic and Outfitter sections or post a request for recommendations for hog hunting in those sections. A lot of the day hunting opportunities available for hogs are on exotic ranches as a side line they don't necessarily check in this section.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Get your license to hunt on post. 2 downsides. 1. No rifle. 2. every time you check in to a hunting area, within 30 minutes the game wardens will swarm your area for full pat downs and vehicle searches. Besides that, the huntings good around the belton lake area.

Besides that, the huntings good around the belton lake area. A little over dramatized. But yes, expect a visit from the GW. If you are polite and nice, they are polite and nice. They will check your permits, your gun registration, verify that the serials on the paper and weapon match, BS a little and send you on your way. I've even had them give me a little help and point me into some hot areas. Everyone claims the GWs on Hood are A holes, if you're squared away and doing nothing wrong, they are great people. Using a rifle has its perks, but a shotgun will put a hurting on a hog. You just have to get a little closer. Good luck and happy hunting. If you have any questions about hunting on post feel free to PM me.
We interrupt this marriage for hunting season.
