I have recently picked up duck hunting and now have started trying to learn to blow a duck call. Can y'all give some honest opinions on my progress so far. Thanks ahead of time!!

Just click on the pick and it will take you to my photobucket.

Sounds like you got a great start to me if you truly are a beginner.

my only comments would be practice blowing a longer "lone hen". When birds are circling and not fully committed, a short lone hen call can sometimes keep them wary. I noticed if I do do a 2-3 second lone hen (draw it out; keep is soft), they commit more often.

My other advice is blow with more volume. Most people (especially me) blow calls a little differently when practicing vs hunting. I tend to use more volume of air when in the field due to excitement, distance of the ducks, etc, etc. Just know your calling may change some when actually hunting, and it is good to know what your call may do.

Just keep practicing, as you're off to a good start.

Good sounding call, try and find a duck pond and practice out there.

Just remember, less is more when it comes to calling!

By season you will be fine, then its just working birds from that point on,keep at it as much as you can, also to have the guts to load a sound file for everyone to judge, lets me know you will go far with your calling skills.

Thanks guys, it sure has been a slow process. But I am going to keep at it. Never thought it would be this hard to learn to blow a duck call.

Its not that hard at all, just remember Hand placement around your insert is very important...dont choke the call like its a chickens neck, also keep fresh reeds in your call for the best performance and tone, and Hot air presentation is paramount to make the call run correctly.Oh yeah stick with the High dollar calls like the one you have because the El cheapos do you no good...But thats a whole different subject!

You didn't pick the easiest call to learn for but it's a dayum good one. Sounds good for just starting out, there is a ton of videos on YouTube and Kelvin (muddy foot) has some on there as well.
