Just checked the forecast for south texas in the area I am hunting next week. I know it's early for a reliable forecast, but looks like a decent chance of rain.

How does rain affect deer hunting/movement. The rut should be on if that matters. Thanks!

I shot one of my biggest bucks ever while he was chasing a doe in a really bad thunderstorm one day after Thanksgiving.

I have seen the movement is great the minute the rain stops, the longer it rains, the bigger the show. Have fun

hunting in the rain is great, unless I'm in my climber. Really enjoy afternoon showers that stop about 30 minutes before dark. I have noticed though that when the deer do come out, they spend a lot more time eating the green stuff than they do under the feeder.

Not sure where your hunting down there, but a friend of mine shot a 141" 10 point with his bow lastnight in Webb County. He said its cold and the deer are chasing hard. Should be great next week!

During a heavy downpoor, I haven't seen much action. I've watched deer on many occasions hit the brush and lay down when the bottom drops out. Like was stated already in the post, the fun part is when the rain stops. Scent trails get washed away and the bucks will go nuts trying to pick up a doe. I saw this very thing Friday after Thanksgiving.

personally I love the rain, especially the cold rain days.
the movement improves immediately after the rain quits.
one of my fondest memories as a young hunter was times where i would avoid the rain while under the cedar trees on the sides of the mountain in edwards county. looking down into the valley, waiting for the big ones to come out.
great times.

Thanks for all the response. Looks like I shouldn't be too worried about the rain.

Just remember to wipe your gun down if it gets wet!

Hunt food plots in the rain. I have seen the most deer at one time, in an oat field in the rain. It was amazing!

Shot my biggest in the rain. Brother in law said deer wouldn't be out and decided to stay home. Sucked for him because that nice 12 he had been watching laid in the back of my truck after it was all said and done .

I have certainly seen deer moving in the rain. I have even shot a couple of them.

Stay all day...most of the big bucks know that hunters tend to go to camp about 9am to 10am...then they will start moving
