went to west Texas mulie hunting last week. didnt see any mulies but met a couple great guys from california. it was windy, cold, and dusty out in the desert. we all decided to leave early. they both said they had never seen a whitetail other than on TV. they have both hunted elk, mulies, blacktail, hogs, and other stuff.

i invited them to drive 5 hours in the wrong direction to go whitetail hunting at my place. they were hesitant but said WTH. we got there at 1am, BSed till about 2am, got up at 5am to go hunt. i sat with John. the whole time he was pumped. he said "i cant believe i am sittin in a box blind" and "i am really whitetail hunting. this is awesome, noone has ever done anything like this." it got light enough to see so i opened the windows, and said theres deer at the feeder. i told him to shoot. he was like really? i said yeah. he shot a 6pt, i thought he missed. then a small doe bounced back in and i told him to shoot it, he dropped it under the feeder. both shots were 150yds. walked down there and saw blood from the first deer and found it about 30yds away. the doe turned out to be a nubbin, but it didnt matter at that point, he was stoked. 2 bucks down within 5 minutes of legal shootin light, on his first whitetail hunt. lenard, the other guy didnt get one, but he had a blast.

heres the kicker, Johns uncle owns a 14,000 acre ranch in southern california and invited me and timmy to go out and bowhunt blacktail and hogs in july(i know, weird time for a deer season). they have 600 acre hog pen with some huge russian boars and alot of free range ones, that they run hunts out of also. i have never seen a blacktail in real life. weird how things happen sometimes and i cant wait.

heres some pics he sent me:

and John with a big ole hog:

Congratulations.

Just goes to show that what goes around, comes around.

That trip will be a memory maker.

Kwr, I had pics but can not post them until I claim my camera from the property room at the pd. I have a feeling Roy may make them vanish though just to make us look even worse at the trial!

Drove alot on the quads, I put 70 miles on, got back in and found some great mule deer country, lots of draws, walked abour 4 miles and saw nothing. Had a great time; was really after a javi but it just was not in the works. Great looking country, but no deer.

Next year we are off to Wyoming.

Where at in SOCAL? Im from San Luis Obispo (been out here almost 4 yrs) You will love hunting there, just remeber it will be hot in the day and foggy/cold at night. Start prcticing because you could be making 70 yrd shots, depending on how they hunt on that particular ranch.

70 yard shot, I can make those with ease!!!!

Opening weekend I was skipping arrows in to the block at 89 yards!!!!! Dead center!

I hope they just have some good bucks!

I can't wait!!!!!

also dont know if you really care but if you are hunting in southern california they technically arent blacktail, just small mule deer. i think the cut off for blacktail is the montery/ santa cruz county line.
