Hey guys, here is a new idea (to me at least),that may help some of you. I wanted to plant a food plot, but had 2 problems. First, no tractor. Second, even if I did, couldn't get it to where I hunt anyway. Solution...Take a old used tire from a truck and drill 5/16 or 3/8 inch holes (12-15),about half way around the tire. Then take bolts about 2 to 2 1/2 inches long and mount them thru the holes with wide washers and nuts. The bolts will plow up the ground really well and if they hang on a root, they will flex back, and then back into place. You just wrap a rope around the tire a few times on one end, and tie it to your hitch of your ATV on the other. Now this is for east texas ground and I'm not sure how effective it would be on that good old Central Texas caliche. It's not perfect, but it gets me where I want to be. Hope this helps a brother hunter out.

Fortunately, I own a tractor. But something that I feel a lot of ATV owners overlook is the value and use of a small, pull behind trailer for the ATV. Northern Tool and Equipment makes a little 4x6 ft trailer that's perfect for both hauling an ATV, and pulling behind it once you get to where you're going. You can throw a tiller on it, pull it to where you want to plant, and prepare soil much better than simply scratching the surface. Granted, it won't match the area you can easily disk with a tractor, but it will allow you to create a much better seed bed in the area you can work.
As most of us know, it doesn't take a very large wheat or oat strip to attract deer. In fact, we often see deer feeding on the side of the road in an an area no bigger than what you could break with a tiller. And many times, such small, out of the way grazing strips are the best producers for catching a more mature and wary buck that only ventures into larger food plots at night.

BET! lol I have models that are perfect for what your looking for.
But sounds like a good idea. I use a cheap box disc behind my uv... Main thing for those type disc will be weight... if it dosnt have enough you need to be able to add it somehow

We made one out of pipe and railroad spikes. Blew holes thru the pipe and drove the spikes through them. Then we made a frame from angle iron and welded the pipes across.
Worked pretty good.

I bought one of the behind the ATV discs. I got it gently used and it works good. I have to add weight to get any real depth of cut out of it and you need a pretty strong ATV if you are going to cut very deep but I've prepared a couple of good food plots. Then it failed to rain . . .

Easy to make a small "drag harrow" or just buy yourself a 4"er. That is essentially what y'all are using. A store bought one will do a heck of a job since it has all the tines.

might even add a little concrete in the bottom of the tire to add some weight and keep it from flipping around on you so much. Be careful pulling so much weight, you might go through a few belts!

If you got a real 2" receiver hitch on your ATV, the groundhog max is a nice too as well.

I have thought about adding weight to it, but so for, it has not been needed. It does not weigh a lot , so going over the area a few times don't take much time. Best thing about it is the cost, or lack there of. With all my other hunting expenses, it was nice to save money on this!
