Hey cbump i dont know what that maggie girl is talking about, And by the way maggie that dude you were talking about is the guy tat is hosting the weatherford tx contest.I think i know what im talking about. anyway cbump there are several things you can enter in a contest first there is the main pot which gets you in the contest for the most animals, second there are heavy pots which are 10.00 a pieceand you can enter all of them if you want. this pot is for if you are in the heavy pot for the bobcatand you get a bigger bobcat than everyone else in the big bobcat pot then you win the money in that pot. third there is a calcutta which is basically saying that your team is going to win the contest and if you win you get the calcuuta money. Its broke down for you.

The Calcutta is basically another side bet that you can enter. Lets do a fake tournment: 10 teams, $100 dollars a team; $10 dollars for calcutta. So lets say 8 teams enter calcutta.. that means there is $80 in the calcutta pot, and $1000 in the tournment pot. Now if the winning team enters calcutta, they would recieve $1080 in money... now lets say the winning team didn't enter calcutta... that team would get only $1000 and the 2nd place team would get $80 (assuming they entered the calcutta) Just an extra side pot to try an win extra money, or lose it... lol

The problem with these "contests" is NOT finding hunters that want to hunt or that would enter,It's finding hunters that have access to land in or around that area. Have one on a set piece of property of good size and the contest would insta-fill!

In a true Calcutta, if your team enters it, you don't necassarily have to pay in for "your team" to win. You can bet on any team to win. So, if you pay in to the calcutta pot, and bet on another team to win, and they do actually win, then you get the calcutta pot, not the winning team, unless there is an option for the "winning team" to buy themselves back for half the price of what was paid by the other team into the calcutta, in which then the calcutta would be split 50-50 between the winning team, and the team that bet on the winning team. THis is how it is done in Golf Tournaments, so figured it could work here as well. Either way, Calcutta is a fun way to liven up the event.

Not me. I don't want to be on a piece of property no matter how big with a bunch of other hunters. You'd be crawling all over each other Not for me.

This isn't golf! lol, but you are right (at least to my understanding) on how a true Calcutta works, however, the way i described it is how it will work on this tournment, plus its the way most calling contest i've entered have done it. Thanks Jake

Each team hunts their set of diffrent places. 1 place, lots of hunters is only asking for trouble or an accident.

I plan to make this hunt but was wondering why a limit on some animals and not all. Ive hunted numerous contest and it seems to me that limiting all the animals or none of the animals works better. I always liked having a total animal limit myself, all species combined. Just asking.

Well next tourney there most likely be limits on all the animals. We should have limited all the animals, but we weren't planning on limiting any at first. Plus our point system is not exactly perfect....Just didn't want to keep changing the rules. But i hope you guys will bare with us... there will be a suggestion box at the tournament for you guys to put your .02 in. Thanks for the comment "cmc" hope that answered your question.

We are going to pay out according to how many teams are here. If there are 1-10 teams we will pay out 1st place. 10-20 teams we will pay out 1st and 2nd place. 20-30 teams we will pay out 1st 2nd and 3rd . 30-40 teams we will pay out 1st - 4th place. The reason we are doing this is beacuse we entered a tournament earlier this year, there were 11 teams and they payed 3 places which only put about 400.00 in the first places pocket. We hope this helps people to relize that we want the teams that do good to actually win some money and not just there gas money back. There are also some gift certificates and some calls that will be given for the teams that are out of the money. Hope to see you guys there we are expecting around 30-40 teams right now if everyone shows that said they are going to. Maybe more.

well, i understand what your saying pro, but most tournaments i've been to the host hunts. We did also state that the host will be hunting in the rules. Hope its not to much of a problem, and we will have a poly there. i myself used to sometimes wonder about host hunting there own tournament, but i've seen host have bad nights like everyone else too. For us, this is a tournament where after weigh-in, we only have a 5min drive rather than hours of driving to get home... kinda one of the reasons we wanted to host one...among others

Absolutely nothing wrong with the host hunting his own tourny. Most do hunt their own why is something wrong with it?
