I'm thinking about buying a 9mm and wondering what I should go with. I'd like to keep it under $600 total, but the S&W SD9VE for ~$350 sounds like a really great deal (I am aware of the trigger situation). This is just going to be kind of a plinker; if I carry it will be a different weapon. Thoughts?

There's a metric ton of 9mm's under $600. Or, are you specifically asking for feedback on the SD9VE?

What kind of trigger situation are you referring to? My SD9 has no trigger issue.

Mainly feedback on the SD9VE, but if you think there is a better option for not much more money, please respond. Is there enough difference for $100-200 that I'd regret buying the S&W?

the SD9 is known for having a very heavy trigger that is also sometimes gritty, with a long pull.

Personally I like my Sig Pro 2022, but I like Sigs and thats one of the few that you can get into for under $500.

I have seen the SD9VE's sell for more than Academy charges, so if for some reason (I cant think of one) you dont like it, you could probably get your money back.

I would suggest buying a new Glock Gen 3 19 for $500 out the door.

Yep. Get yourself a glock. Skip the s&w unless it's an m&p, and even then I'd take a glock 19/17, or an XDm

I have a Jennings Nine that was only $149 but I don't know if they still make it.

Check out the s&w shield. It's cheap and reliable and when u get a little more cash, you can upgrade the trigger if needed.

You could also look for a used XD for around $400. Nothing wrong with buying used.

For under $600, I wouldn't even consider the "Self Defense 9 VALUE Edition". You don't have to compromise in that price range.

As mentioned; the Sig Pro is WAY under appreciated. I will get another.

There aren't many pistols better than a CZ 75. I plan to get a variant someday.

The Beretta PX4 series is nice.

The 2022 intrigues me. Is it as good/better than the Glock?

Depends on preference. I much prefer the sig DA/Sa trigger over the glock trigger.

The 2022 trigger is nice and the decocker is a plus, but the gun is bulkier than the glock. The trigger on the glock doesn't bother me but it can use a lighter spring which is a $7 fix, the glock is like the AR of pistols so many things you can do to them.....

Glock. I've got a beat to hell and back M17 Gen 2. It has never failed. You can pick these up at a good price.

This may be the ticket for you. PSA has the Zastava CZ999 on clearance for $279 + shipping. From what I understand its a clone of the Sig P226. Never seen one in person but the reviews seem to be pretty decent.

XD9. You can find them used for just barely more than the S&W you're looking at. I'd avoid the S&W if it was my hard-earned money.
