I have a bunch more, but here are some of my favorites - some newer, some older.

Link to Weeds from Bastrop

For the photo inclined folks:
A roll of paper towels created a "snoot" to limit my flash to a spotlight for many of these. Used a 10 year old 24-135 cheap Sigma zoom lens, no macro function. Old (2005) Nikon D200, handheld.

I think that this shot of a Bull Thistle is one my favorites.

Thanks for the kind words, folks but it's simply laziness in action. I'll take any excuse to stop mowing, drink some beer and play the camera!

Great shots. Question, how did you get the dark back ground that is in several shots. Was it in by computer program or something
you did in taking the shot.

Per my previous post:

"For the photo inclined folks:
A roll of paper towels created a "snoot" to limit my flash to a spotlight for many of these. Used a 10 year old 24-135 cheap Sigma zoom lens, no macro function. Old (2005) Nikon D200, handheld"

Step one is to use a very high shutter speed to seriously subdue the ambient lighting - which means the flash will dramatically dominate the lighting in the shot. I can sync the flash at up to 1/8,000 shutter speed, which makes the sunlight essentially invisible. So, generally I try to shoot this kind of image in subdued natural light, at 1/3000+ shutter speed with a bunch of flash power. But, a black T shirt behind the flower will serve the same purpose.

Lastly, yes. When you shoot with digital you have to use software to get the image from the camera. Simple (free) programs like FastStone Viewer let you lighten/darken to taste.

Marc
