I've been having a lot of trouble with the coons lately. They went through 350lbs of corn in 3 wks. I had a varmint gaurd and carpet tacks, but it didnt phase them. I have a wildlife eye so i have video of coons climbing the legs and hanging from the varmint gaurd. I put some 4" pvc around the legs 2 wks ago and wired them to the barrel to keep them off the ground and the video affirms the method. No coons can even get close to climbing it and I have more than 3/4 of a barrel of corn left. Wahoo! This method works everyone with a coon problem should do the same.

How did you 'wire them to the barrel'?

I've been wondering how to install the PVC, myself. Can you give a more detailed description on how to do it? I have a varmint cage installed and it has helped out tremendously.

I think the wider the pvc the better b/c its harder for there small hands to wrap around it. I know they cant get a hold of the 4", but havent used anything else. I put one small hole in the top of each pipe to thread wire through and then through the seam btwn where the pegs that the legs attach to are attached to the barrel. Other feeders may not have a place to attach a wire, but mine did and it was the easiest way for me to keep the pipe "free" floating and not anchored to the ground. I think that just makes it harder for them to hang on. I'll be putting pvc on the rest of my feeders when I go back down this wkd.

I'll be doing the PVC trick this weekend, too. Thanks!!!Now if I could just cover the ground w/4" PVC pipe and make the hogs & cows roll away, I'd be doing great!

Yeah go with wide PVC, it makes it harder for the coon to get a grip. I just drill a small hole about 8 inches up off the ground and screw a long bolt into it. Do this under the PVC. This lets the PVC spin and makes it even harder for the coons.
