Just checking to see if anyone here might have some expierience with early scouts . I've owned jeeps for years but new to scout and this one needs a power plant upgrade.

Not with Scout 800. Wrenched on a couple Scout II's for a couple years; these had the 345. Solid trucks.

I like the cummins idea but not sure what all it would take to adapt or modify . Prob need help from someone experienced in fabrication .

If the Cummins swap is a possibility, there is a shop in Kaufman that specializes in them. Can't recall the name but I know someone that had it done there. Very reasonable for the amount of work and tuning involved. If nothing else they should be able to answer any questions you have.

I've got a 1965 Scout 80 and a '64 I use for parts. Great rig. I love driving that thing. I've done a lot of work on mine but never an engine swap. There are several great web sites for Scout enthusiasts where I'm sure you can get info. Try justih.org and binderplanet.com.

My first ride was a 77 scout traveller. Awesome piece of American iron. If I was doing a scout 80/800 it would get a 345 IH just to keep it a binder.

You should reconsider the 4cyl. It is bullet proof and will provide the torque needed assuming you have factory gears.
The only way I would dump V8 swap money into an 800A is if it was REALLY nice, zero rust and you had the factory truck top.

That little power plant will surprise you around the lease.

The 4cyl in the 80/900 didn't have a lot of HP but good torque. aaron reeves garage down around maypearl is known for his 4bt engine swaps if you want to go that route. SBC is always a good choice for many junk yard finds and after market support for.

Well after researching some builds It made more since to find a scout that came with a factory. V8 and Dana 44's . Less time and money spent on fabrication . I got lucky and found a 1969 800 with factory v8 4 speed and Dana 44's . It's pretty clean except for lower quarter panel rust . I found some patch panels online and am looking for someone with a lot more bodywork expierience than me to repair them . Anyone y'all might recommend ,pleade let me know . Thanks
