We own about 750 acres in durant, ok… we purchased this property about 7 years ago. The first few years every time I'd take out the atv to go to the different feeders it seemed like we'd roll up on some piggies at at least two or three of our feeders. The past 2 years we'd occasionally harvest a few. These past five or six months it seems they've disappeared. Nothing on the game cams or anything. Surrounding property owners have said the same. We've got plenty of deer and turkey but no hogs! Trying to find an explanation other than word got out amongst the piggies to not go near the "Rockin M" ranch cause they mean bidness!

Water, food, or cover is missing. They need a cool wallow for the daytime, preferably shaded to hide out from the heat and sun. Has the local creeks or rivers lost any pool level? This may explain what happened, they moved looking for cover.

After you shoot them a couple of times they tend to move, don't worry though, they will return.

I read on the internet this morning that there is a virus going around and price of pork is rising. Makes the adults sick but is fatal to the piglets. If it is affecting commercial hogs you can imagine the virus is hitting feral hogs worse.

We've got multiple creeks and stock ponds and all are full. Cover is abundant. That's why it's puzzling

I am in Pottsboro,Tx across from Durant and I am seeing hogs in new places,I think its the drought and the fact they really reproduce. Don't wish for them they will always be there.

We hunt in antlers ok area, and the hogs moved off for the better part of nine months. No reason they just did

They seem to be highly migratory. From late August to the 2nd week of February my property is over-run with hogs (happened the same way the last two years). Then they just disappear over-night. From mid-February to the end of March I have been getting only about 1-2 pics of pigs per week across 4 cams (versus 20-30 pics a night). Last week I had one random brood of about 10-15 come through and now have a lone boar in the area that randomly shows up. Just give them time and they will likely be back.

They move around a lot but they will be back. I'll go weeks without seeing hardly any and then may see 30-40 in a day.

That would be the PED virus. So far, it has not been reported in Texas. Oklahoma has had it bad. The latest available report which came out on 4/2/14 which covers up to 3/23 still showed zero in Texas. There is a lot of testing going on and it appears that the virus is contained to commercial herds. That doesn't mean it can't change, but it is most likely not the reason some folks are seeing less feral pigs.

My dads place has the same issue, except we've never had hogs. We have a residual, and full, water supply, tons of cover and more acorns than the good Lord himself can count, yet we've never had a pig on our place. All the property around us are seeing them by the dozens, but for some reason they will not come onto our place. He's got 3 donkeys and an emu, but don't know if that's a factor.

follow the food sources. Feeders will not hold hogs in an area if they are not free choice and even then it is unlikely, they need more. This time of year they follow wheat crops and johnson grass patches that are yet to come though the ground.

They are nomadic, seeking the easiest food available. They will be back if you have a feeding program.
