I am looking at trading for a Nikon Omege BDC 300 3x9x40 to put on my remington 700 30-06. All information I get online shows this to be a muzzle loader scope, so my question is will it be okay on the 30-06 or should I go a different route.

The two issues you'll run into is that the parallax free distance should be 75 yds instead of 100 and ability to handle recoil. Skylar's rifle scope school thread stickyed on top, can explain parallax, which shouldn't be a factor for hunting big game.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Here's a link to a good review of the Omega that covers how the scope differs in design to those made for conventional rifles.

The short answer is the Omega's BDC settings are based on typical drop of the heavier muzzleloader bullets and typical powder charge behind them. That is why the scope is also considered a good choice for slug guns.

The BDC settings on conventional Nikon scopes are based on trajectories of lighter, flatter shooting bullets.

couldn't you just input what cartridge you are shooting into the Nikon spot on app and it should give you your BDC calulations.

Yes, I checked and the Nikon SpotOn software allows you to choose the same bullet types when calculating for an Omega, as they do for their other models.

Dan you are absolutely correct. Nikon's Omega scope can be used on a centerfire rifle with any problems. Using Spot On just input your shooting data and you'll get the corresponding distances for the Omega's BDC reticle. Believe me, you are not the first person to do this. Al ot of folks like the longer eye relief of the Omega scope.
Heere's an example of the info you can get when you use Spot On.
