I taped it at 37" on the ground which equates to 171 pounds but am thinking that's too high. For comparison, I'm 5'9. Any guesses?

"How much does the hog weigh....I am 5'9" for comparison" That reminds me of the line from Ghostbusters... Listen. Do you smell something? Based on previous samplings of the membership, guesses from photos will yield you an extreme range of weights. It is a problem of using tiny 2D imagery and irrelevant clues. You were there on the ground with the pig and are the only one in a position to make a reasonable guess.

DNS is right and 25-06 prolly has it covered in that range. I'd say closer to the bottom number than the top...

We got a scale from Harbor Freight that weighs up to 550 lbs. I think we spent about $20 for it. I would guess your hog weighs 125 lbs.

Correction ! If the tape says 171 then by GOD its 171 ! Assuming he followed the instructions your right it will be pretty close. Just because you have a hard time with instructions does not mean everyone does!

How can you compute a 37" length into a 171 [pounds] weight???????????
It isn't 171Lbs, it may not even break 100...

Look up heart-girth method. If done right, is accurate for weight estimation, but it has to be done right.

Look up heart-girth method. If done right, is accurate for weight estimation, but it has to be done right. I'm sorry but, I dont believe there is a simple one size fits all math equation to ACCURATELY estimate a hog's weight. From raising hogs and shooting quite a few, I can tell that they carry their weight different specimen to specimen. Torso length and taper as well as shoulder, ham, and head mass vary enough to discredit any validity of a universal hog shape and thus weight equation. Most reasonably seasoned hog hunters can (in person) eye ball a hogs weight with relatively accurate estimation without having to break out a calculator. If you were to need a tape measure and calculator (or pen and paper), why not just toss the porker on a scale for a definitive answer?
