Hmmm... you can buy an ar pistol so would that make steel core 5.56 illegal? It would fit their definition of armor piercing handgun ammo. This could be a dangerous road if they take it.

Apparently everyone is blaming JBI Armory for this. Claims that he was working with the ATF to build a 5.45 pistol so they'd have an excuse to ban 7n6. As if the ATF actually needs an excuse. Some people....

I too know Jim and no way would he work with ATF on a ban of 7n6. I'm sickened by some of the accusations and names I've read him called on some of the other forumns. Jim is good people. People should focus their anger at the ones doing the banning, not the LITERALLY man working out of his garage trying to further his hobby and provide services to fellow enthusiasts.

Jim, Joe Blow or whomever is not the issue. The issue is that the ATF has gone overboard on 7N6 ammo. I know alot of folks here could give a flying flip about this issue, but we better ALL stick together, because next it will be the EPA on lead ammo, green tip 5.56 and on and on and on. As gun owners, hunters, fisherman, outdoorsmen, we all have a stake in this issue. Now is not the time to point fingers, now is the time to stand together and do something. When one person loses, we all lose. What could be my problem now, may be yours later. Please write your representatives about the runaway ATF.

Why does having a pistol made in a metal core round cause it to be considered armor piercing, but not a rifle? Wouldn't it have a lot more velocity out of a rifle? Causing it to be even more effective? Why havnt they outlawed all metal core ammo? I can buy metal core .40 and it's not considered armor piercing. Something just doesn't seem right about this.

Illegal to import. I realized that but its also illegal to have "armor piercing" handgun ammunition. So if you have a rifle and a pistol in your possession, is steel core legal? However that would make Barnes pistol bullets illegal so I'm lost on that law.

which barnes bullets are you talking about?
I guess the 5.56 doesn't have enough steel in the core so it is not illegal, it has to have a certain percentage. "(B) The term "armor piercing ammunition" means - (i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; "

The solid cooper ones. They fit the definition. I know they are not armor piercing but that doesn't matter. I'm not sure about the percentage but the 5.56 does have a steel core.

Same reason the Barnes solids loaded in the 458 Socom round got banned by the ATF. Since it uses a pistol primer it is listed as a handgun round. Go figure.

and so it begins... Guy trading a spam can for a bolt action... I saw that too. I guess if you have a 5.45 AK it'd make sense. Waiting for them to pull this carp with 7.62. It'll eventually happen using semantics or anything else to justify a ban. It's a brave new world.

They banned the importation of steel core 5.45 ammo. However, according to the petition I signed yesterday, it's an illegal ban. As an ammo cannot be considered armor piercing if it is not at least .22 caliber. And 5.45 is less than .22 caliber. Also, the projectile is partially made with lead, thus negating the armor piercing classification as describes by the ATF. I don't have a gun in 5.45. I likely never will, but I signed the petition anyways.

I guess the gunbroker auction was ended. Was the ArmoryUSA pistol the first in this caliber?

Silver lining is that I might be able to afford an AK-74 pistol now.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
