Hey Folks, I received some awesome news today. I emailed the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and then called and talked to them a couple months ago about how Non Resident Service Connected Disabled Veterans rated 60% or more having to pay over $300.00 for a hunting license here in Texas, and how this was not fair for our Men and Women who have given so much for our Freedom. They advised me that this subject will be placed on the agenda. Well undoubtedly we at the HWS were not the only ones that contacted them. I was talking to my Friend, Dave Griminger, about this the other day and he contacted Stat Representative Four Price. Four Price contacted the TPWD and found out all was taken care of already. Here is the great news: Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission on 11/7/2013 adopted an amendment to allow nonresident disabled veterans to obtain hunting and fishing licenses at no charge (see link below to read full text of amendment / Commission action). The rule will go in effect no later than the first of the year.

FYI, the Commission has statutory authority to designate by rule a category of person as residents for purposes of the issuance of combination licenses. Also, the Parks and Wildlife Code provides for the Commission to waive the resident hunting license fee for a disabled veteran. So, the new rule essentially designates “nonresident disabled veterans” as Texas residents for purposes of allowing them to obtain a super combination hunting licenses.

Also FYI, HB 1076 (2005) added active duty U.S. military personnel to the class of people eligible for reduced/waived license fees.

Awesome. I have tried contacting them as well. This is huge. You could count on spending 1K on a non resident when you add flying them in and paying a hunting license. This is going to let us do what we are doing and be able to put our money to better use. Thanks for posting!!

I just wish Texas would offer something for Veterans with a lower than 60% rating. I got my Oklahoma lifetime hunting and fishing license at a great price with a 30% rating. Only had to pay $200.
