What are your opinions on waders in north Tx? Early season? second split? I'm looking to get my first pair. Breathable or 1600 5mm mags? This would be for standing around or sitting. ...not alot of walking around.

I'd get some 3mm, and some breathables. That way depending on the weather you can dress accordingly. Although you can probably get by with just some breathables and layer up with the winters here in north texas. You really cant go wrong with any Cabelas brand. I've got the Cabelas Armor Flex 3mm.

Arise.Kill.Eat -Acts 10:13 I have read a bunch of stuff on the internet about Star Wars but that does not mean I can skin a deer with a light saber.

IMO, I haven't seen the need for 1500 5mm in North TX. If ya get one pair, I'd go with 3mm with good thinsulate in the boots.

I just bought the Ultimate's. I kept wondering whether I hsould buy the 1600, but I thought at the end of the day it was probably just excessive for the places I hunt. I stay warm enough in my 800-gram boots as it is.

I just bought the Cabelas 3.5MM Lite Mag 800's. Great reviews and they are on sale at a great price right now! Check em out.

If you have any weight on you at all go breathable. I'm a big ol boy and can't imagine how hot 5mm would be I think I would die.

I'm 6'6" and 270lbs, I love the 1600s...lil warm early but they served me well the 50 days I wore them last season. I rarely wore more than a pullover and jogging pants under them so I was pretty comfortable.

X2! And they come in different styles. For instance I got the stout version since I am not tall but am pretty thick... Though I think I probably could have got by with the regular. The ones I got have lots of extra space in them... I really like them, they seem very durable. The only downside is they cut the side down pretty low to give you access to the handwarmer pocket. Thus you can't get in water that's too deep... But that is a non issue where I hunt.

I usually try to stick to hip waders as much as I can if its not below freezing. We do a lot of hunting over rice water and shallow water and they are much easier to get around it. I usually go trough a pair of academy hippers every season or two. Also Hodgman makes a decent pair that seems to last a little longer. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/game-winner-adults-wetlands-400-hip-boots/pid-936205?N=83518988http://www.hodgman.com/Hip-Waders/Hodgman-Hunting-Waders-Hip-Waders,default,sc.html

When it does get cold I have a pair of 5mm that are worth every penny you spend of them if it drops below freezing or you have to stand in water in your blind.
As another thing to think about; my hip waders work perfect for working on blinds or scouting before the season starts.

They are 100x more durable than the Stone Creek or whatever Academy sells. I love mine and abuse the hell out of them.
