Im glad the elk didn't run off. That being said its not a shot I would ever take with a bow.

Now that's a DRT for ya! If that boy doesn't ever shoot anything else, he's got one good story to tell and video to go with it.... cheers

Would you have taken it with a rifle. Just asking cause back when I hunted in La. sometimes a frontal shot might be all you et in a SEASON. Back then I would have tried to put it dead center of his chest and hope for the best.

The elks chest might be 14" wide but the vitals is about 4" and either side would be thru shoulder and he would be gone. Have a friend that has a ranch in Colorado that tried that shot a few years ago and wounded a bull and found the bull during deer season 3/4 mile away> Still hunts white tail with bow but he said he gave up bow hunting for elk because he felt so bad about losing the bull.

Its not 4" thats the size of an orange, but if you want to think it, that's your right, i've dressed out a bunch of elk., as I said seen two elk go down with that shot in last two years.

Again its a perfered shot by most single callers including Dan Moore who has over 43 bulls.

Great interview with Dan

Hard to argue with what just happened in that vid... If your confident in your shooting skill there is always a shot you can take

Great video!
Before I learned more about elk hunting that is a shot I would not have taken. After learning more from guys like Dan Moore mentioned above, it is a shot I would confidently take at 30 yards or less. Elk are different animals than deer.

Honestly I don't think I would even take a head on shot like that with a firearm. I just think that you risk having to track the animal for miles compared to a quartering or broadside shot. But that is just me. And Im not saying that you may not have a long track with a quartering or broad side shot, but I think you have better odds of not having to with those types of shots.
