Not nearly as many turkey hunters on here as deer and hog hunters I have noticed. Anyway, just wanted to hear what everyone's flocks are doing at this point.

The south zone property I will be hunting has a big flock that has split up. The toms are roosting about 1/4 mile away from the hens and jakes. I have seen a big tom that seems to be the boss. He was strutting by himself in a field about two weeks ago. That will be my target for opening weekend but of course I will take what I can get. Also they are gobbling like crazy in the mornings and evenings. Only heard one hen yelping so far.

North zone property turkey are still hanging out together. Haven't split up yet and are pretty quiet in the morning. Hopefully with some warmer weather they start splitting up.

Came up on a group of 20+ birds yesterday evening. Had about 4 jakes and one mature tom in the group.
Lots of birds this year.

Need to get scouting ready for the season. Missed my target tom last year but still got a nice one.

Birds are hot in Schleicher County. Been strutting for about two weeks now. I have a group of about 150 hens that seems to be attracting gobblers from every direction. They roost behind the house about 500 yds and come to the pens for water and to steal my goat's feed.lol

The first couple weeks of season will be good but the hens will be setting mid to late April.

Headed to Jim Wells County tomorrow for opening this Saturday. I hope they're gobbling down there.

I think turkey hunting is great. We have seen quite a few hens at our lease in south San Saba county. Last year we heard lots of gobblers that turned out to be jakes. Do you keep the whole turkey or just the breast? Not much to those legs.

I just keep the breast. I have done the legs before but just not a lot there.

Turkeys in Parker county aren't doing much right now. Was hoping they be getting hot and bothered by opening of youth weekend but it's looking like it may be a bust. Maybe the weather has slowed everything down.

So after last weekend of hunting and checking the game cameras I found that the young toms and jakes are out by themselves but the big toms are still flocked up. I took a nice two year old this weekend but couldn't get the big boys to come. A couple more weeks and they should be splitting up.
