Threecurl, I did not know that. So don't shoot Pintails in the second split.
Here's a good article about the season changes from back in '99 when they first happened:

I know I already posted totals, but I was happy about a few things during the first split... Being from NY (ask anyone, I really ain't a Yankee at all) I was really happy that I didn't have to dress like the Michelin man to keep warm. In fact, I only had two mornings where I think I said that it was cold. Second, I shot a healthy variety of ducks. GWT, Redheads, Ringneck, Scaup, Bufflehead, Widgeon, Gadwall, and a Pintail. 8 different species! Up north all I ever shot was Mallards, Canada Geese and the occasional Black Duck. Two people I have hunted with have shot Canvasbacks, which was pretty cool, too. I am not going to be here for two weeks of the secons season- goin' home for the holiday, so I hope we either squeeze a trip in before the 17th or after the 31st! Oh, and you bet I'm chasin' Canadas when I'm home.
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

It is FUN to shoot a variety of birds! I will agree...
I like to head out at times and chase other birds...
Believe it or not...I long to shoot a straight limit of 5 widgeon Drakes...actually would love to have a 2 or 3 man limit of them! To me that would be cool!!!!!!!
I think I have a place I can do that...but it would have to be next year!
Good luck up North!

Good read threecurl. I do not totally agree with the point it is trying to make. But I also do not think that Trent Lott, or any other politician should be setting dates for duck season.

To me that would probably be harder than a limit of mallard drakes.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

I've only done it once in my entire life. Christmas Eve of 1998, I think. A buddy and I were hunting private between Lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Bob, right off the Trinity west of Aubrey. We hadn't seen a bird all morning until about 8:00, and then the sky turned into a whistling pink tornado. We killed two limits of wigeon drakes in a touch over five minutes, then sat there for another half hour watching nothing but wigeon pile into this little tank we were on. Never seen anything like it, before or since.
If brilliant men are roses then I'm just a field of daisies.

I've been looking for the USFWS laws on possession and I haven't been able to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've tried looking on their site but didn't find what I was looking for.

There is nothing more than the quote I posted and then the separate field possession definition. http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/tex...1.3&idno=50

Just put the pen to the paper...
Here is where I ended up for the first split...
**couple things that stood out** : I shot my banded mallard 11/18 and last year I shot one on 11/17
I had "NO" skunks
I hunted 2 days more than last year...
And I had no double hunts...(hunt the morning then hunt the evening to finish up a limit)
Also, only had one more limit than last year...
The amount of mallards is just mind boggling
J.J.
Here you go:
Duck Season 1st Split Totals Mallard Drake IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII I 61 Mallard Hen IIIII I 6 Pintail Drake I 1 Gadwall Drake III 3 Gadwall Hen I 1 Spoony Drake I 1 Spoony Hen I 1 GWT Drake II 2 GWT Hen II 2 Redhead Drake I 1 Wood Duck Drake I 1 Ringer Drake III 3 Ringer Hen I 1 Hooded Merganser Drake II 2 Canada Goose II 2 Total Birds: 88 Total Ducks: 86 Total Geese: 2 Number of Days Hunted: 23 Number of Hunts: 23 Number of Limits: 8 Number of Skunks: 0 Number of Bands: 1 (11-18-08)
You are like a friggin Duck GOD.

My brother and I could have done it in NM a few years ago. We set up on one end of this lake, but most of the ducks(mallards at the time) were landing in the middle, so we were taking/wasting a lot of long shots. We only packed in 1 box of shells a piece(I know you would think that's more than enough) because we had to take a long hike. Then about 9:30 we stand up to get ready to leave, and hundreds upon hundreds of wigeons come over the mountains right into our face. I think we ended up with 8 till we ran completely out of shells. When we got down to our last 4 shots(2 a piece) we each got 2 all drakes That was one of the most memorable hunts of my life. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing that many birds, and hearing that 'hoo weee hoo' ringing in my head. Here's a pi of the lake. I'm standing on a ridge they were coming over that small cliff in the background. We could hear them coming before we even saw them
