My Brother and I purchased 350 acres near south of Lampasas near Briggs. We have a large JD 4240 tractor and a disc which came with the property. We have never planted WT food plots. What would you recommend? What time of year to plant? What are the steps? we currently don't have any type of seeder so suggestions here would also be appreciated.

Get you a soil test for the areas you want to plant. Talk to the guys at Turner Seed Co in Breckridge and get their input. Also to your county extension agent about your area. Hard to beat cowpeas in the spring for an easy to plant and grow plot. Will livestock have access to the food plots?

Yes we have 9 longhorns that would have access to the food plot.

You won't have much of a plot left for deer then.

Low fence or electric fence if you want to have anything for the deer.

Yes... winter plots you will be able to use the cows and let them flash graze it but peas cant handle the grazing like that. Longhorns will eat leaf/stem/root and all...and prolly the dirt around it
