I'm thinking about selling my old Weatherby 7mm, LH bolt action. It's 25 or so yrs old and in "average" condition (numerous scratches on wood stock and some minor pocking from rust). Has a Leupold variable 3x9 on it. Works fine, I just like shooting a .243 more.
How can I find out what a fair asking price is?
Thanks!
H

To find used gun values I normally go to gunbroker.com and look at the completed items. You have to register to see the completed items, but then you can get an idea the going rates. Just remember that those people are usually paying another $40-$50 for shipping and FFL fees.

And the prices reflect the higher prices yankees pay. Gunbroker is over rated as a place to get an idea of price. I aint seen anything on there that I would buy at their price, nothing. I would look at texas gun tader. You will see some gunbroker prices there also but they stick out like a sore thumb.

The trick is to look at sold prices of completed auctions. Never use the selling prices as a barometer, only look at what was sold and paid for.

Most of the guns sold on gunbroker are sold by dealers and the the prices they are asking reflect retail value. They know what they have and what it should bring. Like Sniper John said the trick is to watch some guns sell and see what they go for. By the time you pay transfer and shipping add another $50 dollars. However you don't usually pay tax for these weapons and that saves you some money.
