Delta and Rockwell merged with Porter Cable who has now been bought by Black and Decker. I think that since B&D owns Dewalt they have done away with a lot of superior tools because they favor the Dewalt line.

I use cordless tools daily. I was a Makita man forever. I have switched to the 20 volt Dewalt tools and I am sold on them.

Another vote for 20 volt dewalt tools use them every day. Also for just drills and impact Panasonic hold a charge forever.

I'm a woodworker, though just a hobbiest. I make fancy stuff and not so fancy stuff, depending on who wants what. Most of my free standing gear is Ridgid, which at the time was the best buy for the dollar (table saw, jointer, bandsaw). No problems after about 8 years of steady use. Circular saw is a Makita, and I bought it after a lot of research, and it's great. Some of the minor gear is Ryobi, but when it dies I'll replace it with something better. Belt sander is Makita. Biscuit Joiner is Makita. Routers are Porter Cable, three are Bosch, one is Milwaukee. Cordless drills are Hitachi (almost dead after quite a long life), Milwaukee (the one I use most), and two Ryobi that haven't died yet and that have cheap replacement batteries. Drum sander, corded, is Ryobi. Disc sander is Harbor Freight (cheap and apparently indestructible). Planer is a Dewalt, which replaced a Delta 22-580 that tore up some gears). That Dewalt planer is a hoss, and I sure do like it. Random orbit sanders are mostly all Ridgid now, since they are really top notch for the price. Had a high dollar Bosch random orbit and gave it to my sister. Sliding compound Miter Saw is a Ridgid. Also top notch. The new Bosch might be a better piece of gear, but it came out after I bought the Ridgid, but I cannot complain about the Ridgid. Shaper is an old Delta Rockwell from the dawn of time. Works great. Lathe is a Jet, and is good stuff. Coffeemaker in the shop is by Cuisinart and the TV is a Visio. Router table is home made with Porter Cable router.

Not my monkeys, not my circus...

Dewalt for yourself, and a set of craftsman as loaners/backups (always seem to need a second drill for big projects)

Same here. DeWalt was always my battery powered tools and Milwaukee was all my tools with cords. I bought a couple of battery powered Milwaukee's and my Dewalts haven't seen much use.

Can't go wrong with Rigid cordless tools. Take the time to register them online (immediately after purchase) for warranty and they're covered for life! Even the batteries!

Dad has a Ryobi. Not sure how it stacks up price wise against the others, but its every bit as good as the dewalt we have had.

Buy the ones that you can get repair parts for if or when needed. With any I have used keeping the batteries charged everytime you are done using them adds life to the battery. I have used Milwaukee, DeWalt and good old Black and Decker. Got the longest battery life out of the cheap B&D.

That would make my mind up right there. Every time I have to buy batteries for the job site for 18v, it is at least $80

Not including that Rigid is a great tool company.
