I take my dog Ranger with me just about everywhere I can. For those of you who don't know him he's severely handicapped from a birth defect. This is the first year he got out in the field and got to enjoy everything. This is from January. I think it's best picture I have of him.

He has a cerebral birth defect that causes him to walk really poorly and fall alot. It wasn't something that we noticed till he was about 10 weeks. I didn't think he would make it this far but he's doing pretty well, he'll be 2 this May. This was the first year I had him in the field during dove season and he did pretty well his first weekend out. Without any training he figured out how to retrieve just hand thrown birds whenever he was actually paying attention. And yes he is fairly hyper but extremely loving.

Good looking dog, I know he has to love getting out in the field. As a breed Brits are hyper but over all I am not sure there is a friendlier breed.

He looks like he's saying "Yeah, how about this....now, what's next???" Good for you for loving him unconditionally back.

I don't know whose efforts I appreciate more, the dog or the owner. Sounds like to me the dog tries his best and could not have a better owner. Really neat that you kept the dog and try to make his life better each day. There will be a special place up there for you and Ranger. Thanks.

Indeed.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Having him in my life has been a humbling learning experience. In his mind there isn't anything he can't do.

Mine will bark and go completely nuts like she's gonna rip your throat out when you're on the other side of the fence or the window. As soon as you make it onto her turf she just wants to say hello and might lick ya to death.

I'm not sure how that switch works in her head or if that is typical, but it makes me laugh.
