I am looking at getting a small pocket revolver, down to either a Ruger or a Smith. Would like to hear from others who have experience.

No experience with the Ruger. Over 30 years with S&W revolvers, J frame to N frame, .22 to 44mag/45LC.
S&W had my back daily for first 12 years as a LEO.

Having owned both. I like that the 642 lacks polymer from a traditionalist standpoint. But the equally priced LCR is lighter, has interchangeable front sights (so you can add night sights), has a better trigger, shoots better for me, and has a few durability enhancements in some places that I think might actually make it more durable over time than the S&W.
A couple years ago, I would have gone with the 642 unequivocally. But if I was buying today, the Ruger would be my first choice.

Can't speak for S&W, but the LCR is a great carry gun.

I have owned both also. Installed a fiber optic front sight on the LCR, trigger was good, grips were good. I replaced the springs in the 642 for a lighter trigger pull. They are both quality revolvers, in my opinion you can not go wrong with either one. Pick the one that feels and points the best for you.

I've had numerous J-frames and now have a LCR. If you are getting a double action only gun then I would say LCR just for the great trigger.

The trigger on the LCR 357 is what made the choice easier. My wife has one now too and she swears that the recoil feels lighter than with previous pocket revolvers from S&W. Must be something about the factory grip and how it fits the hand.

I will always be S&W man when it comes to revolvers but Ruger hit a home run with the LCR for conceal/carry pocket gun. Just love our 38 LCR, great light DA trigger and can make a Coke can dance a jig at 20yds.
Anything bigger, and it's Smith for me, no comparison.
Uprisings started or quelled, tornadoes rerouted, elections rigged.

LCR all the way. Feels great in the hand and shoots like a champ due to the trigger.

As long as S&W's are produced in such an extreme blue state i always go Ruger.

I know nothing about the S and W but I own a LCR. I carry it everywhere and have never worried about it being noticed, and it is light enough I hardly ever notice that I have it.
It shoots as good as would be expected from a small light weight gun.

As much as like S&W the LCR double action trigger is better.
